Used to live in B-O-A in the late '70's, early '80's (Springfield), then moved to Trowbridge, now in a little village near Warminster :D

If all you care about is money, then that is certainly an option.
When I read this, I suddenly had a SW:ANH flashback.
Presently rocking LinuxMint 19.2 Cinnamon.

the printing companies is the most crooked business in the world. they sell you a not so meh printer cheap and made in China and then they laugh at you all the way to the bank when it comes to buying the ink why is a tiny cartridge of colored water cost $29.99 or higher.
I know. but that business model is changing.

see: https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/10/09/hp_supplies/

The same reasons mentioned in this thread were compelling factors---and I managed with no on-site printing abilities for a couple of years. Now I need to print labels, documents, and etc. so need to have immediate access.
I just bought an Epson ET-2650 Eco tank.
ads say:
"Includes enough ink to print up to 4, 000 pages black/6, 500 color (2) — equivalent to about 20 ink cartridge sets (3)
Save up to 80 percent on ink with low-cost replacement bottles (4) — plus easy-to-fill, supersized ink tanks"
Hopefully this ink should last me awhile.

Don't worry: the prices for original Epson ink are very reasonable (here CHF 13.80 per bottle).
With my preferred supplier (see above) CHF 7.80 ...

While drifting a bit off topic, I just wanted to say how much printer installation has improved since I started with mint (17.3) and from when I first started with linux (Xandros around 2002).

New printer arrived yesterday, went to the Brother website, downloaded the driver and cupswrapper debs. Installed the driver and cupswrapper (in that order). Switched on the printer, changed the static IP address and plugged in the network cable.

Was going to admin > printers to add it, but mint beat me to it - notification popped up saying it had added the Brother HL-L8260CDW. Opened up the printer properties and hit print test page and out it popped.

It could not have been easier! And I suspect easier to setup than in windows (win7 - my next job). Don't remember the details, but there was a lot more faffing around when I first set up the HL4140CN with 17.3.

Well done linux and mint in particular :D

Note - this was with LM19.0 cinnamon
