Texans stuck with $US5,000 electric bills, officials say power companies 'grossly mishandled' the weather emergency

As a result, some Texans who were still able to turn on lights or keep their fridge running found themselves with bills of $US5,000 for just a five-day period, according to photos of invoices posted on social media by angry consumers.
that's just plain crazy . .
ERCOT is going to get their panties whacked, the governor of Texas is legislating that customers will NOT be required to pay for those exorbitant inflated bills.
it is all due to Profit Marketeers doing Day Trading and shorting the stocks.
has nothing to do with the real costs of obtaining the resources.
I'm in Oklahoma, just a stone's throw from ERCOT, and our public utilities sent out an Email asking us to please be conscious of using electric power.... We dropped our Thermostat to 58*F and put on sweaters and two fluffy lap blankets over our legs while watching TV, etc.
we did not suffer at all....
My heating source is Natural gas, which the profit demons spiked the cost of to
$10k to $20k
per unit of use, so I just ensured that our furnace did not kick on very often.
we had 3 blackouts in one day, after that, no more blackouts.
I was fortunate, in that I had installed an Emergency Generator years ago.
rolled it out of the garage, started it up, then threw the Transfer Switch and the house was back to Normal.
