Re: Daddy tech support
The oldest just purchased her first computer gaming chair, so she will have it soon from Amazon. Its pink, really pink with bunny ears. The youngest needed to borrow my laptop (of course) since hers were *dead*. She runs them down, and then forgets to charge them, or leaves the charger somewhere she cannot find it. When I told her that she could only take the old Darter (15.6"/LMDE 5) she decided to plug hers in, she wanted my Lemur Pro. Even though "Linux sucks, and is for old people Dad!". She wanted to take it to Starbucks, and recalling the donut glaze issue the last time she borrowed it, I told her a resounding NO. The Spouse Unit told me to let her borrow it, and I put my foot down, and won this battle. She took hers after finding her charger.
Re: Daddy tech support
I have been speaking with my buddy who now has the old MacBook Pro and he has questions about Linux, and specifically Pop!_OS. I sent him to various videos, but he asked me a question that I wonder if the good people here can answer, is there a good website out there that has a list of keyboard commands/shortcuts so that he can use keyboard shortcuts to do things?
He told me that his sister (adopted/he is 54) who is 10 years old, is having issues on an older HP laptop so I suggested he load Linux on the laptop. She does all the school work in Google, so I told him to get Mint or Pop and put it on the laptop.

I'm really impressed with your patience.
I would never-ever be able to handle your tech support, I would most likely have given up and run away if I were to get that kind of growling and impatience from my family.
so I will say it again, I'm honestly deeply really super impressed with your patience. (here is a smiley needed who bows to the hero with super powers)

I second that!I'm really impressed with your patience.
Over the last 5 years or so of my computer business I more or less suggested to anyone who wanted me to repair or setup a Windows computer, that they tell someone who cares.
Luckily by that time we had enough clients converted to Linux and we were mostly just providing and servicing hardware, with Linux installed on the new computers.
Current main OS: MInt 21.3 with KDE Plasma 5.27 (using Compiz as WM) - Kernel: 6.5.0-15 on Lenovo m900 Tiny, i5-6400T (intel HD 530 graphics) 16GB RAM.

True, nothing is 100%perfect in life, so we have to weigh the good with the bad, and as long as the good wins we should just be happy with life.

Well my youngest and I are at Black Rifle Coffee, we got her cousin to join us, which is nice. So I started the day off getting them a chocolate croissant, then we made BRCC. Both are having a good time, and then when we finish we are going to get Pho and Bahn Mi for lunch. My youngest lost her mouse, when she moved home, so she asked if she could have mine, and I told her NO! "But Daaaaaddddd!" Sorry, I draw the line, she took half of my man cave, and I do not share my mouse.
Went to the knee doctor yesterday and he ended up giving me a cortisone shot in the knee, and it feels a lot better.

62. And it is a pain. I had a meniscus tear where I had surgery in October last year. Doctor tells me with the arthritis I am going to hurt from now on.
Re: Daddy tech support
Well the battery drain issue is still there on the MSI unit. I guess that it is an MSI issue not an operating system issue. I wonder why the battery drains on this MSI gaming laptop when it is turned completely off? I guess that I will never know. Battery life is meh, but I suspect TLP keeps it from being totally horrible.

I am 62 too and having knee pain. But it's on a much lower scale than yours. My sister is an MD Dr. She says airbycle as shown here should help the knee pain. Should be done 3 4 times a day. One month practice should improve the knees a lot.

Tech support issue:
Spouse Unit: HONEY! YouTube is NOT WORKING!
Me: Hmmmm.
Spouse Unit: It locks up after just a couple of videos.
Me: Hmmmm, goes and checks it out. Sure does lock up after between 3 and 5 videos, the ads do not allow the video to show, skip ads fails to stop ads after you get the stop ads button, then if you keep trying the system does wonky and all of your choices are replaced by odd things. You have to turn off the TV, and then turn it back on to reset the ad-server (which is what I think is the issue, since the problems revolve around ads.). I had done everything I can think to do, linking the TV to the iPad helps a little, it gives me an extra 2-4 videos before it locks up completely. Also it disconnects the iPad randomly. All software is up to date on the TV.
Me: Well we can get a new TV, or get a new NUC and attach it to the TV with AdBlock Plus which stops the issue. The new TV is completely out of the question, so I found a second hand NUC that was very cheap which will work only as an multi media system. It is old, but since all I will be using it for is YouTube, iTunes, and NetFlix then it will work for that. So I just need to get a wireless mouse and keyboard and a short HDMI cable.
After much checking, I think that it is the ad-Server for YouTube since they want you to purchase the pay service. The issue all revolves around ads, and this has been going on for a while, and I have been trouble shooting it for a while.

Re: Daddy tech support
I had knee problem, possibly about 40 years old (40 years ago). A week of one hour sessions of radiation, ultrasound, massage, etc. and it was then usable. I found out next winter it had been caused by kicking a ball (REAL football) with a bent leg, OK if kept straight. I then did a 3500 km bicycle ride up the coast of California and sometimes it twinged in the morning. Off load it but keep it going and it would be right again within 1/4 hour at the most.
Basically, good luck, hope it comes right for you.

Re: Daddy tech support
I avoided playing football and baseball during my school years.
I did that because I watched my cousins playing football and getting hit hard, and then having shoulder and knee surgeries.
I played in the Marching band and avoided that ego trip stuff, at age 79, my knees are still good, at about 90% most of the time.
One shoulder hurts a bit, but that is because I took a fall 3 years ago, and my right arm struck a rock...
One thing I did do though, was follow a Walking tractor and plow 10 acres of ground every year, that builds up leg muscles.

I was treated by a famous osteopath in India. He treated me for a few minutes and my knee pain wasn't there for 4days. Look for one in USA and visit him.
