Not here either!
Linux, K3b, xfburn, Brasero
--don't need anything fancy, just a way to select files, form into a grouping (collection or project) and burn/write to a disk, whether CD/DVD and whether data, audio, video or ISO or backed up files

We may slowly start to see more like this as companies think there might be a market for Linux products. Time will tell.

So far, nero works really good. I always had problems with DVD RW's (with brasero or k3b), but nero works until today. :)

I found Nero better than Brasero or xfburn. Although for simple iso burning, I prefer the quick and simple gnome default.

hi colonel

I usually burn CD's from CLI
That way i can control speed etc.

here in an example of the command

Code: Select all

cdrecord -v speed=4 driveropts=burnfree dev=/dev/scdx xxxx.iso
or if there are permission issues

Code: Select all

sudo cdrecord -v speed=4 driveropts=burnfree dev=/dev/scdx xxxx.iso
to find the name of your CD device run

Code: Select all

wodim --devices
example printout

Code: Select all

mick@mick-desktop ~ $ wodim --devices
wodim: Overview of accessible drives (1 found) :
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
 0 dev='/dev/scd0'	rwrw-- : 'IOMEGA' 'CDDVD482416E23-C'
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
you can blank CD's in a similar way

Code: Select all

cdrecord -v speed=4 blank=fast dev=/dev/scdx
hope this helps. :)

Interesting. K3B is the best thing I've come across so far though.

I have been using Brasero. If I had a BlueRay/HD_DVD burner then I guess I may have a need for Nero for Linux

There is no image burning feature in XP or Vista. But...There are many freeware programs that can copy images. I use ISO Recorder v3 in Vista and it works great. There is a v2 for XP SP2, but I have not tried it. You can find it here:

http://www.mydigitallife.info/2008/02/1 ... -v1-v2-v3/

Otherwise, there are plenty of other freeware apps for this.

BTW, K3b rules!

I always wondered who would buy Nero when there are so many good Linux apps.

Must be for newbies coming from Window$ maybe?

(Nero WAS my favorite in windows until I found out about CDBurner XP  )

Under Linux, I had problems sometimes with Brasero (for no apparent reasons) but NEVER with K3b. So K3B FTW!!!!!!

Also, I don't know if you guys experience copying scratched cds  but when nothings seems to work to copy a messed up CD, Magic Iso does the trick!

So for normal use I say K3b all the way and when you're desperate because the cd is messed up, Magic Iso
