'The most of THE SHADOWS' - on CD.
I was about to cart a milk crate of CDs to the local 'Op Shop', and when I was cleaning up other stuff I saw an old USB CD player I had not sold when I closed my computer business in 2007. I considered chucking it in with the few hundred CDs, the I wondered if it worked.
I was not in the box, so I brought it in and plugged it into the USB Hub on the BRIX and when the .wav files came up in Thunar I clicked one.
Beautiful - crystal clear full range sound with no equaliser needed.
Now I'm cleaning the mould using 'Windex' glass cleaner on a few of the other CDS, and trying to remember if I threw out my CD towers.. The same type of mould used to ruin cassette tapes and make them sound screechy, and get in the grooves of vinyl records).
I'm not 'certain' that the uncompressed CD audio is cleaner sounding than mp4 or mky files, but I 'think' it sounds better. Might be a physical illusion.

The Norwegian singer Aurora (born 1996) wrote a very successful song about this. There are several versions which you can find by searching YouTube, but my favourite is one performed for the Climate Change movement. Here is the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Mc_OM5oNA8
Would be interested to know what you think of it.

...beyond the mountains, far beyond the mountains....
A magical song. Can't put my finger on the reason, but somehow after all these years it still has this bewitching quality. German is of course the ideal language for (slightly) sombre romantic poetry. This kind of music can only come from the hazy country with the dreamy forests, the birthplace of Romanticism, not from the lands with clear blue skies and bright sunlight.
