Off this morning for first covid 19 vaccine jab

Post by rumpus »

I signed up for the vaccine and got called up last night to get the shot today.
This may be the only advantage of being over 80. Or they are using the old ones to see what happens.
I don't know which vaccine they are using , bot I'll find out.

I'll post the side effects if anyone is interested.....rumpus

rumpus,

I had my jab a week ago. I had the Pfiser one. No side effects at all. A small step forward.

best regards Keith

When Arizona opened up appointments for the +65 group, I tried to get an appointment and couldn't get onto their (very badly designed :x ) website (apparently, it was overwhelmed by traffic) and couldn't get through by phone because the lines were busy. By the time I could get through, all available appointments through the end of February were already gone.

Yippee!! Had my first jab this morning too. Done at the doc's surgery, no queue, no waiting. Oxford variant. No side effects so far. :D Brilliant!! Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for this blasted malaise and we can all get back to doing normal stuff.

I got the vaccine yesterday and only have a tenderness at the injection site.
Much the same as my annual flu shot. Did not turn into the Hulk.

I was amazed by the lack of people there waiting for their shot.
Perhaps because it was an "over 80 group", and there's not so many of us.
Here in the US they say another 100 thousand people will die from covid before
it slows down. That is such a loss to humanity.

A sore arm is a small price to pay to know I did my small part to help.
Go get your shot....rumpus

Hopefully the sore arm is all you get but in the next few weeks as it takes two weeks to work properly you may get mild covid symptoms. There are some very strange ones too like rashes, sickness and diarrhoea.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

I'm thinking about taking up smoking, because they're talking about prioritizing smokers because they are at an elevated risk. :x

I intend to get the vaccine as soon as it becomes available to me. Whether that's tomorrow or two months from now, I absolutely want to get it.

And, I second xenopeek's sentiments.

Whether one gets the vaccine or not is a personal decision. I don't think it's fair to try to shame people who for the time being have decided not to. FTR, I haven't made up my mind yet, but I am leaning towards getting it. You can try to talk me into it, but don't shame me into it. :?

It's a personal decision that has potential consequences for other people too. I don't think that shaming people is the way to go, and I don't see any of that happening here, which is good. But I do feel that because of the possible consequences, it is not just a personal decision.

I hope that a lot of people will get vaccinated. I definitely will. It's not only for my own safety, I just want to do my part.

I have a friend who is in the high risk category (he's over 70) and he just got the first shot today, around 4 or 5 hours ago. So far he says he has no side effects.

I've been trying to get my mom who is 88 an appointment for her first shot, but so far no luck. The slots fill up almost instantly, and I suspect this will continue to be the case for a while. The situation is absolutely inexcusable. Hopefully, with me hands at the wheel at the top, this situation will be resolved.

Every household got a letter this week addressed to the occupier from our local health authority telling us not to contact the doctors or local hospital and to wait for them to contact us. Evidently they have all been inundated with people trying to get vaccines which means they can't get on with their normal duties.

Someone also sent a suspected bomb to the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine producer's site in Wrexham today. Bomb disposal were called in and had to blow whatever it was up in a controlled explosion.

The logistics involved is staggering. It will take a half-billion doses just for the US to approach herd immunity.
I have no idea how many vaccination stations will eventually be open, or how many jabs per day they can muster.
Even with a steady vaccine supply it may take a couple years.
Everything in life was difficult before it became easy.

I took my first one and had no reaction whatsoever it was fine. Last Thursday I took the second injection and 10 hours later I was shivering uncontrollably as cold as I’ve ever been and my wife said I was shivering so bad I was shaking the bed. But by 4 o’clock the next morning I was perfectly fine. Most people I’ve talked to who had the second one had bodyaches and a little bit of chills. But that’s it. Your mileage may vary
