For awhile now, I have been reading a collection of James Bond novels and short stories by Ian Fleming. It is a very good set of books and a good read.
I would recommend any one of them to someone interested in 007. Just bear in mind that they were written in the 50s and 60s. They are full of slurs about women, people foreign to England and should be avoided by persons with weak sensibilities.
That being said, I really enjoyed the books. As a long time fan of 007, it was about time I read the forerunners to the movies (I had read a couple when I was a teen).
I had been having a hard time deciding which are better, the books or the movies. I have finally come to the conclusion that they are equal in merit.
I own all the movies (BD collection) and now own all the books. After finishing reading them, I have an even greater appreciation for Ian Fleming and his work.
007 fans?

Re: 007 fans?
Most of the movies were not based on Ian Fleming's works.
My favorite of his novels is From Russia With Love, which I think is better than the film.

Re: 007 fans?
That's funny, I was just reading The Spy Who Loved Me a few months ago. My impression was that it would make a great independent thriller/horror movie without any connection to the James Bond ip. But then again, The Spy Who Loved Me is the odd one out. Thunderball is the one where the book is closest to the film. At least as far as I can tell.
The books are honestly all over the place in terms of style and content. Dr. No somehow manages to be a jungle adventure. Casino Royal is certainly a thing. But, I bet your impression of it hinges on how you read the line, "No, the princess is dead." Scaramanga's golden gun is a gold plated single action colt .45, and he even has a Derringer to go with it. Trains and dynamite? That does it, The Man With the Golden Gun is actually a Western in a dinner jacket. The books are a survey of pulp fiction.
So, yes 007 fan here. I am disappointed that I couldn't find my copy of Casino Royal to get that critical quote right.

If you need sudo to edit it, back it up first. If I tell you to edit something with sudo and forgot to tell you to back it up, back it up anyway. sudo cp backup or cat > backup.txt.
