What would you guys say if Rhythmbox was to be ported to Windows? Good idea? Bad idea?
I thought I'd try something I have never done before to learn programming.
It's not set in stone, and I intend to make this more of a discussion than a promise.

It reminds me of me trying to learn German by reading physics papers.
Seriously, although having a project is a good way to learn programming, you might want to start with something simpler.

In all seriousness, I think gaining experience is always a good thing, as long as it doesn't involve harm to yourself or anyone else.
I'm not a programmer, but if I were going to learn, I think I would want to learn and gain experience in all related things, and both compiling as well as porting are both things with which I think a programmer should have first hand experience. Who knows: perhaps you'll start a revolution and suddenly GNU+Linux will climb to a 50% desktop market share.
