Thyroid glands and goiters...
At the beginning of 2021, I started seeing a chiropractor. I've got various back issues and decided it was time to get into some good back hygiene. For those of you who don't know (and this would have once upon a time included me) there are different "schools" of chiropractic. I have become a fan of the Gonstead School, as exemplified by Dr. Rahim. I found a local Gonstead practitioner, and the first thing she did before doing any adjustments or scoping was a full spinal x-ray. In doing this, she saw something she didn't like up by my throat, and so she consulted with another doctor who then diagnosed it as a deviated trachea.
Anyhow, most of this year has now been filled with being seen by a few different specialists, which eventually culminated in surgery this past Friday to remove a substernal goiter. As It turns out in my case, the goiter was about the size of a softball. Fortunately, they were able to remove it through the incision in my neck, and did not have to crack my chest open to gain further access. Equally fortunately, the left side of my thyroid is perfectly normal. There are some small glands which are "attached" (for want of a better term) to the thyroid, and they are the parathyroid glands. These glands regulate the calcium level in your blood. In my case, since just the right side needed to be removed, and because the surgeon was able to preserve at least one of the others, I have three remaining and functional glands, and half my thyroid. I haven't been to see my surgeon yet for a follow-up; however, based on what I've learned about such things and what I can tell from being in touch with my own physiognomy, I likely will not need any supplementary hormone medication, which is fantastic.
I have noticed another (somewhat expected) change: I used to get slightly irregular heartbeats and under some circumstances I would also get palpitations lasting up to 8 hours or so. Now, my heartbeat is absolutely rock solid steady, the only changes to it being the rate.
Who knew going to a chiropractor at the beginning of the year would put me on a path to dealing with my thyroid?

Re: Thyroid glands and goiters...
It is often the case that a serious malady or disease is picked up by someone not trained in that field of medicine. I myself have had that experience.
As for chiropractors? After visiting several my opinion of them is low. I regard them all as quacks, eager to get their hands on your money.

Glad to hear it sounds like your health has improved.
Thyroid does affect the heart. That is one of the lesser known issue with those hormone levels being high or low.

Good to hear you had a beneficial outcome there Portreve. It is funny how the path between cause and effect can be a convoluted one sometimes. A few years ago I had a headache that went on permanently for about 2-3 weeks. Eventually I succumbed and ended up at the hospital for scans etc. They did a full suite of tests, found nothing at all, and said it must be stress related.
I knew it wasn't as we have a pretty relaxed lifestyle, and nothing was worrying me particularly. Anyway I mentioned it to a neighbour who then suggested she give me a head massage to relieve the non-existent stress She specialised in some Eastern variety using hot towels etc (can't remember the name of it) and it lasted about two hours!
At the end of it the headache was still there, but being polite I played it down, and she also said see how you are tomorrow. The next morning I woke up with the mother of all toothaches (with accompanying headache)! Emergency appointment with dentist that day, tooth pulled, both toothache and headache totally gone!
Told my neighbour and she explained how the massage could expose other issues (e.g, an infected tooth) that otherwise wasn't showing any direct symptoms. Headache - Massage - Toothache - Extraction - No headache

I'm glad your headache problem was resolved but I'd be more inclined to believe your neighbour's statement if she'd said it before beginning the massage.

BUT, you need to command them to your schedule, and not theirs.
Their schedule is to ensure that you are benevolent donor to their bank account.
My schedule is that the problem I am experiencing is taken care of, and I don't need to go back and see them for a while.
One such 'person/fraudster' was a near genius.
fixed my problem, saw him 3 times, I felt great.....
then a week later I started noticing a different problem that I have never experienced before...
mr. Quack purposefully fixed the 'real problem' and then inserted a 'new problem' to ensure that I returned to his office again.
Our next meeting was not pleasant for him. I told him that I knew exactly what he had done, and they "will correct the new problem" or I will see him in court post haste.
he fixed it, and I never went back to that one.
I currently see a good one, but he wants you to sign up for a 36 session Life Time course, that will ensure that you stay "healthy"... uh, nope, not going to do that....

Re: Thyroid glands and goiters...
The latest thing (you know the old saw it never rains but it pours) is I've developed an infection (bladder, kidney, or some other part of the tract I'm not exactly certain) so last night I had to call for a prescription and then drive to the only 24 hour pharmacy in the region (at least they were very nice in there) and now I'm on the mend from that.
Argh.
