What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
When firing up your Linux machine, what are the first things you do all the time? Me I do the following every boot:
1) Open terminal
2) Open HTOP
3) Kill Bluetooth
4) Check for updates
Drink tea/coffee.

I shut off my laptops when not using them. So I boot up each time.
Re: What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
Grab some coffee in the morning or a beer in the evening (I am chained to 3 Windows machines at work in between).
Then open Thunderbird and Firefox. Maybe play a game or 2 of kpat if an update needs to run.
I suspect about 95% of us have roughly the same routine.

Since you reboot often why not;
sudo systemctl disable bluetooth.service
Then you won't have to go #3 again.

1. Go to Nemo (autostarted), F3 to split windows and select Favourites in right pane.
2. Run Thunderbird to check email accounts and RSS feeds
By this point I've ended up down some rabbit hole...

I seldom "boot up" but merely bring out of suspend mode, rebooting normally only following a kernel upgrade.
However, each time out of suspension I first check email then run update ànd upgrade commands, and then I just continue with whatever the day requires of me.

Re: What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
I'm also on a laptop so it's been shut down overnight. When I first boot up, I just drag my calendar a whopping 3/16" to the upper right hand corner and check it to see what I need to do that morning, if anything. Then I click on my browser which opens into my home page which is my email.
Bluetooth is already set to off (I can turn it back on via its icon in the panel). I just glance at the Update icon in the panel from time to time to see if there are any updates (I like to go ahead and run them shortly after I get them to be done with it).
Saturday mornings are an exception. I plug in my Ventoy USB flash drive, boot into it, then make an image of my boot drive with Rescuezilla. When done, I yank Ventoy and boot as usual. I takes me all of five minutes.
On the first Saturday of every other month, I also test the image I just made by "restoring" it to a spare boot drive in an external enclosure, then swapping it out with the boot drive in the laptop to make sure the restored image is good (I keep three boot drives in rotation). The entire process takes no more than a whopping 10 minutes. So far, I've yet to have an image fail to restore. I've already made today's image, "restored" it to one of the spare boot drives, then swapped out the boot drives.

Re: What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
I want to say I tried that back in the day on the old Darter Pro with Coreboot, and it did not work or caused issues. So these days I just automatically turn it off.
Re: What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
Sounds contradictory, how do you do it "automatically" ...you have it listed as a "thing to do"?
I have difficulty believing that systemd works differently on your computer ?
Code: Select all
systemctl status bluetooth
● bluetooth.service - Bluetooth service
Loaded: loaded (/lib/systemd/system/bluetooth.service; disabled; vendor prese
Active: inactive (dead)
Where disable also works for another user.

That was my thought too.

Re: What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
the custom command " rfkill block bluetooth" without quotes being an auto start up thing is one less thing I must do manually do *shrugs* works for me.

Re: What are the first thing(s) you do when you boot up?
Curious. When I installed my Mint 19.1 (I'm now on 19.3), a Bluetooth applet automagically appeared in my panel. To shut off Bluetooth all the time, I only had to click on the icon, then click on the "switch" in the upper left hand corner of the window that popped up. I can easily turn it on and off at any time and the setting will "stick".

See for me with the Coreboot thing, I have to turn it off each time, and it resets immediately after I reboot.Lady Fitzgerald wrote: ⤴Sat Dec 04, 2021 12:01 pm Curious. 1. Coffee.
2. Read my thirteen cartoons, most of which are from the Washington Post comics page.
3. Check my family email.
4. Check headlines @ news.google.com.
5. Second cup of coffee.
That's it. It's very easy for me to fall down a rabbit hole.
In the early evening I read my news feeds, including linux feeds.

Don't feel bad; I live in a rabbit hole.
