Drops some comments as well.
Re: Mint and Laptops
I've installed Mint 20.3 Cinnamon on an Asus TP202NAS 12" convertible laptop. It runs well, touchpad and touchscreen work. Screen rotation is borked -- Mint and MX think that normal orientation is actually rotated counterclockwise, or something. Also, under Windows the keyboard and touchpad would automatically shut off when the lid was rotated past 180 degrees, doesn't work under Linux. Finally, the touchpad doesn't follow screen rotation, but this doesn't come up much since the auto-rotation not working means I don't often use it other than as a laptop.
I did install Gnome 3.something on it, which has a "lock rotation" feature, and use it as a tablet, manually shutting off the touchpad via a function key, and doing the same with the keyboard from the terminal with Xinput.

Re: Mint and Laptops
the Laptops that work well were:
- Acer
- Lenovo
- Toshiba
the Laptops that were problematic were:
- Hewlett Packard
- Dell
most of them, had an Expired Windows System,
as that is why they were converted to an LinuxMint System.

Re: Mint and Laptops
I've installed Mint on a couple of MacBook Pros as well, although they do tend to run a little hotter.

You should add two more options to the poll: Clevo and Other.

Where's Apple on the list?
I've only installed LM in my MBP and other people's desktops, plus my HP tower.

Re: Mint and Laptops
I got one of the first generation Dell XPS 13 models. I only booted Windows once in order to resize its own partition, as the Windows disk manager was the recommended tool to use.
Installing Mint wasn't straight forwards. As I recall, it required a custom kernel for a few months until the Mint release "caught up". It got a little like my day job for a while, but I was determined. It has served me well and still goes strong. These days Mint installs without any issues (I tend to do fresh installs on that one, rather than an update), and the latest generation model costs about 50% more than what I paid

Re: Mint and Laptops
I have a Clevo N141CU configured and supplied by https://laptopwithlinux.com/linux-laptops/, a company based in the Netherlands. Really good laptop, came preinstalled with Mint 20.1 when I bought it though the company installs other Linux flavours. All the Fn keys etc. work as they should (unlike my old Lenovo) and the only thing wrong with the keyboard is the Windows symbol on the menu key.
I am very happy with the laptop and the Dutch supplier's service has been excellent.

Re: Mint and Laptops
I had a 14 year old HP 6730B Notebook, Intel duel core and 4gb ram and that ran Mint Cinnamon 19.2 fine.
I just installed Mint Cinnamon 20.3 on a HP G6 450 Probook and it runs blazingly fast thanks to the I7 quad and 8Gb ram.
No problems with installing on either laptop.

Re: Mint and Laptops
I can't remember all the different old clunkers that I have installed Mint on, or at least tried to.
One of them was a goverment issue 30 lb chunk of metal with a spinning HDD that I replaced with a SSD.
Even so, it was 32 bit, and Unbuntu would not run on it....
have had several Dells of various years, a couple of HPs,
and currently a 15 year old Sony laptop,
a 3 year old Acer laptop,
and 3 ASUS laptops of various ages.

Re: Mint and Laptops
My current laptop is a Lenovo ThinkPad. I've noticed any problems but it is only really used for browsing, with occasional test fiddling.
Previous was a Macbook Air, 2007 model IIRC. That required a bit more setting up, wifi and graphics IIRC.

Re: Mint and Laptops
Dell Inspiron (8th gen Intel) - current main machine on Cinnamon 20.3 - no problems
HP (2nd Gen Intel) - previous main machine - now relegated to Media Server duties running Ubuntu Server - no problems on Mint or Ubuntu
Inherited ancient Toshiba XP laptop with some old Celeron processor - was my Media Server running 18.x XFCE for a number of years - no problems
Acer Chromebook (CYAN) - some slightly more modern Celeron processor - - managed to get 19.x running smoothly on it, but only with some packages/configs borrowed from gallium OS, sound-card profiles from Github and a mainline kernel. It's back running ChromeOS for the time being.

Re: Mint and Laptops
I have a System 76 Darter Pro and two older Dells Inspiron laptops. I have had extremely good performance with HP ProBook laptops for non-Linux hardware in the past.
Re: Mint and Laptops
I have the same System 76 (two of them one 1st gen, and now the 2nd gen), and I, also, have had really good luck with Linux on HP laptops.
Re: Mint and Laptops
So far Lenovo seem to be the most popular, I wish I could have added two more choices to the poll, but I was limited to 10. I am suprised at no Tuxedo or Slimbook computers here.
