Out of interest, I read a page on T480 battery replacement. They use a "spudger". It seems like a fancy plastic replacement for a fingernail or screwdriver or chisel.

I wonder if spudgers have a size like #1, #2, etc. Apple probably sells a $2000 spudger with built in HRM. Can you get a left handed spudger?

My previous reference to consumer law was about the guarantee. What happens if the product is faulty? Here, the shop is required by law to refund the money even if the supplier refuses. That is the main advantage of buying an alternative brand locally instead of direct from China.

The other thing to look for is the actual power stored in the battery. Alternatives from China sometimes have as little as 25% of the storage.

I am more impressed with LMDE5 on the old Darter Pro, it just works well. There is no real need to ever try something else on that computer. I am looking forward to Mint 21 and its improvements.

I must say that for the most part Linux on laptops is a generally unsatisfying event, since there are always compromises in any laptop. I have had Windows, MacOS and Linux laptops. Linux is generally more stable, but Windows is stable also, it just spies on you constantly. MacOS does their own thing, and no matter what you want to do, you have to do it the Apple way. For some people that is what they want, they want the choices removed so that they can just get on with life. Windows works, and works well enough that most people never have to think about things either. All they want is Facebook, email, zoom, word processing, and sometimes solitaire (my wife). People are afraid of too many choices, they revert back to simple since that is all they want to have to have to deal with.

So can we address how Mint 21 is working here? On all my laptops superbly using the Cinnamon desktop. No issues except for the one glitch on the Darter Pro USB-C thunderbolt. But that seems to have cured itself. No PPA's running on anything, just straight Mint.

Mint 21 - Lenovo Legion 7 16ACHg6

Okay, fired it up with live media using the AMD graphics instead of nvidia just as before when it failed to boot Mint 20.3 Edge. Intel AX200 USB bluetooth doesn't work, it crashes bluez if I try enabling it. Everything seems to be detected properly apart from the screen resolution which is 2560x1600 but anyway I had to enable 125% fractional scaling so that may be why it shows funny in inxi

The recommended nvidia driver is 515 but I happen to know the laptop is supported by 470 series since that is what Lenovo ship it with for Windows 10 and 11.

So while it now at least boots as compared to not at all with Mint 20.3 Edge, I reckon the OEM kernel or next image with the official Edge would be the optimum way to commit to an install. Technically it's usable now but I'd want working bluetooth at least since I have a couple of devices I pair to the laptop normally.

RGB backlight shortcuts work and given the number of zones concerned that's impressive. obviously the power profile switch combi won't for obvious reasons but still lights up when Fn is pressed. The camera kill switch works, mic works, top row Fn keys are all fine, touchpad gestures work. Battery state reporting looks accurate, no visual glitches using the amdgpu driver.

Logs Important errors (sound plays through the speakers despite the codec errors and fast start is off in windows, there is no fastboot option to configure in EFI)



Not tested, HDMI out or USB-C ports.
