Re: Mint and Laptops
The reviewer has got it wrong. All their laptop range for which Ubuntu is available is 20.04 currently.

Re: Mint and Laptops
Older HP Elitebook 8460P that I have upgraded to 16GB ram and two 240 GB ssds. One for Linux mint 20.3 and the other for Windows 10(although that is pretty much only used for updating every second Tuesday) Runs Mint perfectly.
Re: Mint and Laptops
I was actually looking at either a Probook or Elitebook before I purchased my Darter Pro (Gen 2) from System 76.
Re: Mint and Laptops
So it looks like Lenovo is the clear leader, with Dell in second place. Interesting. What makes Lenovo machines so popular in Linux land?

Re: Mint and Laptops
well, I have one, and it seemed to be decently fast, and thin enough to slip into a satchel.
I think that is why Business people like them.
mine suffered an aw crap moment a few months back, it won't take a charge for some reason.
the battery is at 85% when I noticed it the Charge Light was not working... ???
the power adapter has 19VAC so something inside the laptop is broke??
pulled the battery to save it, now need to open up the case.
Ordered one of those neat little Electric Pencil Screwdrivers that I keep seeing on YouTube videos where the geeks disasemble laptops... it actually works.

That is certainly odd.AZgl1800 wrote: ⤴Fri Apr 08, 2022 12:29 pmwell, I have one, and it seemed to be decently fast, and thin enough to slip into a satchel.

Re: Mint and Laptops
HAHAHAHA! Love it. Also I am impressed with how many Toshiba laptops, I have not seen one of those in years. Lenovo I can sort of understand, since I see a lot of those all over the place. I was almost going to get a Carbon laptop from them, but decided to go System 76 to support a Linux maker.

Re: Mint and Laptops
A used Thinkpad is often a lot of bang for your buck. They're built relatively well, as in sturdy. And they are easy to repair. For example, swapping out the keyboard often takes all of three or four screws.
Sure, we can. But I don't see any reason why we would.
If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding [SOLVED] to the title. Thanks!
Re: Mint and Laptops
I have had a lot of great results with refurbished corporate ThinkPads. They are definitely my go to laptop. I have a couple and have recommended them to a few folks and they are happy with them.
Re: Mint and Laptops
Z830 or Z930 with new battery and bigger SSD if the keyboard is good. Light. Strong case. Unfortunately the Z830 was limited to 6 GB and some of my work requires more.
Re: Mint and Laptops
Ok, I am good with that. Distro Tube has a hilarious comment on Thinkpads here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cC1CqyCN9Q0 Make sure you wear your programming socks though......Moem wrote: ⤴Mon Apr 25, 2022 2:24 pmA used Thinkpad is often a lot of bang for your buck. Ok, do we need to re-open the poll?
Re: Mint and Laptops
Why the hell shouldn't you be on 19.3? It's not going EOL for about a year from now.Lady Fitzgerald wrote: ⤴Mon Apr 25, 2022 2:19 pmYou and I think alike. Re: Mint and Laptops
Has anyone else noticed that the laptops that get good 'press' on this forum are usually business or enterprise class models? They're more sturdy, easy to service, have good connectivity, and, more importantly IMO, don't have cheap internal components. Those usually seem to be the ones with poor Linux support.
