NASA Rocket

Post by Pierre »

for something that's completely off-topic is this:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-61947195

it's the first time, that the American Agency has launched any rocket,
- outside of the USA mainland.
8)

the newly minted commercial spaceport .. is fairly micro in size,
when compared to what the agency would be used to.

it's quite similar to what the American's would call an Trailer Park,
or in Australia .. by using portable donga's.

Besides being called in, myself, to fix things for NASA and one division of theirs being run by a New Zealander, Pickering, for 20 years, we just launch rockets in this country and have been doing it for a while. We saw the second launch a few years back, while driving down the North Island coast.

The company? Rocket Lab

Wiki - Rocket Lab is a public American aerospace manufacturer and launch service provider, with a New Zealand subsidiary. The company currently operating lightweight Electron orbital rockets, providing dedicated launches for small satellites, 146 so far.

The TV news tonight, a rocket to be launched tomorrow, from the New Zealand launch site, with a satellite to be placed in orbit around the moon.

I knew about the (defunct?) Woomera range, and had no idea Australia had built any other facilities. Well, good on you Australia. :D
