gaining access to win 10 partition via mint19.3

Post by bosshogg »

So I have been a member on the forum for some time, and don't normally need to ask questions, but this has me stumped. I have both mint 19.3 and win 10 on my laptop, both have separate boot in the bios. I am trying to boot into windows, but as this is so infrequent, I've not changed the mobile number from my origional sign up, and can't remember the password I set to unlock windows and get in. trying Microsoft recover account, results in repeated auto mail responces, stating some of the information provided is insufficient/wrong. Has anyone got a working solution to this?

the new method, is to log-in to your Microsoft Account,
and reset the password, from there
- if you log-in with an eMail address.
:)
the older way, if you still have an Local account,
is to boot an Windows Install Media,
and then Reset the Local Password, from there.

using Method Three in that List

some multi_boot Linux system do have have an password reset program,
- using Method Four in that list
that will still work, as well.

Hi Pierre, strangely, and what prompted the post, was the fact that Windows blocked my attempt to open it (haven't used it in a long time) by asking for a password, which I couldn't remember setting??? And again, strangely, on trying one last time to boot via the normal way, it allowed me to boot into it no problem...but that's Windows for you. Thank you for the reply though.

Now my laptop is asking for a password on booting up Mint 19.3, it is not accepting my "locked screen password" and I can't find/get any other password accepted. Can anyone advise how I can gain access again, I have windows 10 on the same laptop, but on a different partition (i.e.not dualboot) can I access my Mint files from Windows?

HI bosshogg.

I can’t solve your dilemma but if you boot from a Mint installation USB or DVD then I think you’ll have access to both your Mint and Windows drives. I’m wondering if encryption may stop that but as I don’t encrypt, I’m not sure.

(Grr … dilemna)
