Re: Name that Movie
Absolute Power is my fav movie. Where other directors would use banal music cues in order to manipulate how we feel about what's going on, Eastwood's lack of a typical soundtrack allows the words and actions of the characters to correctly convey the emotion of the moment. Like the scene where his character's daughter Laura goes to her fridge expecting to find it mostly empty, perhaps some water and leftover fast food. She opens the fridge to find out that her father has broken into her home and stocked her fridge to capacity with healthy food. Her reaction says so much more about both of them than any music cue could. The same can be said for "American Sniper". We don't need that typical snare drum & wind instrument music which is typical of films featuring war scenes. It's who the characters are that influence how we think and feel. Great job, Mr. Eastwood.

I don't have time to read through all 93 pages to see if this one has been posted yet, but here is a rather easy one:
A few quotes:
"You mess with the bulls, you get the horns."
"Does Barry Manilow know you raided his wardrobe?"
And several years before Bart Simpson said it... "Eat... my... shorts."

Love that song! You could always count on John Hughes films having great soundtracks.

Re: Name that Movie
Ok, going back to the notion of the title of this thread, here's three random quotes from three different movies. Let's see if anyone gets them:
ONE
TWO
THREE
ONE
Code: Select all
A: “You gave as good as you got.”
B: “We're alive only because I knew something about these ships that he didn't.”
Code: Select all
A: “Well, far be it from you to admit there isn't anything you can't handle.”
B: “There are three basic types, Mister *****: the *wills*, the *won'ts*, and the *can'ts*.
The *wills* accomplish everything, the *won'ts* oppose everything, and the *can'ts* won't try anything.”
Code: Select all
“Whatever it is, just *one* of these couldn't have eaten up old Fred and his sheep.”

TWO: no idea
THREE: That one's easy: Tremors. Poor Fred.

I'm not sure where you sit with Firefox, Space Cowboys, or Bronco Billy. Some of them are forgettable; others I think scream to be forgotten.BenTrabetere wrote: ⤴Sun Jan 21, 2018 11:58 amAbsolute Power (1997)Portreve wrote:Ok, I'll try my hand at this...

Naturally, I liked his Man With No Name and Dirty Harry series.

The wrath of Ricardo Montalbán and The Black Hole which was Disney's first film to receive a PG rating (and could have used Einstein's input as Reinhardt's 20 years studying the black hole would've been centuries or even eons to the Palomino crew.)

Re: Name that Movie
Firefox is not a Watch Once for me, but I think the story line is so preposterous that it is difficult to sit through. I feel the same way about The Eiger Sanction. I like Bronco Billy, and I never get tired of watching Space Cowboys.Portreve wrote: ⤴Fri Jul 27, 2018 10:37 pmI'm not sure where you sit with Firefox, Space Cowboys, or Bronco Billy. Play Misty for Me is one of his better films as both the director and an actor. The Rookie should be near the top of the Screams To Be Forgotten list.

Re: Name that Movie
I am pretty sure that's from an episode of M*A*S*H, and it is based on a line from Duck Soup - "Remember, you're fighting for this woman's honor, which is probably more than she ever did." Hail, Hail Fredonia!

Re: Name that Movie
Yep Rufus T. Firefly (Graucho Marx) in Duck Soup.
Some more funny banter in the movie:
Rufus T. Firefly: Not that I care, but where is your husband?
Mrs. Teasdale: Why, he's dead.
Rufus T. Firefly: I bet he's just using that as an excuse.
Mrs. Teasdale: I was with him to the very end.
Rufus T. Firefly: No wonder he passed away.
Mrs. Teasdale: I held him in my arms and kissed him.
Rufus T. Firefly: Oh, I see, then it was murder. Will you marry me? Did he leave you any money? Answer the second question first.
Mrs. Teasdale: He left me his entire fortune.
Rufus T. Firefly: Is that so? Can't you see what I'm trying to tell you? I love you.

I love the Marx Brothers! Every bit as funny as the Three Stooges, but with much more adult humor.
