Weapons of Mass Deception is a good book to read on how groups and nations try to hide, distort or call to remove information which exposes a likely nefarious agenda. It is used today across America, the UK and Western nations to steer individuals and groups into supporting what is often found to be yet another loss of their liberty's, freedoms and privacy's.

All under the guise of 'good' and 'security'. Given Googles all or nothing to opt out of user policy change, Google users either accept (likely unaware of the many ramifications therein) or they opt to avoid Gmail, Google Plus and a full range of Google Apps plus should they chose to use the popular Google Search Engine they pay careful attention to any/all cookies (especially persistent ones) uploaded onto their computer or mobile devices.

There are some who denounce those bringing some of the ramifications of Googles policy changes to other's attention, their agendas in doing so could certainly vary from being naive to that of being questionable at best. The numbers of end consumers willing to accept Googles policy change set's a standard for others in the future that may consider doing the same. In today's post-911 era, Money Talks and Corporations are Citizens until a vast majority overthrows such massive losses of American values.

In the near future, a 3rd.party group is entirely likely to purchase Google's collected information then sell access to US and Global employers who will use that to comb thru any information on a potential (hire) or existing employee. Such allegedly already has occurred with what some thought were private Facebook postings only to be fired or suspended after they were revealed.

For those opting out of Google and Google's InterConnected Websites:

Some Alternatives:
Instead of Google Search engine: http://Bing.com https://duckduckgo.com/
Instead of Google News Agency: http://Yahoo.com http://Worldpress.org
Instead of Gmail Web Email: Yahoo.com
Instead of Google Images,Video: Yahoo.com

Feel Free To Suggest Google + etc. alternatives

Many websites including Google,Yahoo now trace back your ISP geographically now and post that information as a default for your location. You have the option of changing that location and/or turning it off entirely, otherwise that information is posted in various ways which the visitor might not be aware nor approve of.

It is incumbent for Internet Users to pay more attention now to tracking cookies and particularly persistent cookies which could stay on your computer tracking your Internet habits and sites you visit for 30 days or longer.

Exploring Ways to Minimise What Google and other Internet Websites Glean from your computer/mobile device and Internet Use & Surfing Habits.

The Following are popular and well used Firefox Browser Add-Ons to clean and control Browser Cached History,Forms,Cookies etc. A often overlooked problem exists in the Local Shared Objects (LSOs) which have been re-written to activate as browser cookies and can nest on a person's browser for months at a time. These Firefox Browser Add-on's also specifically deal with those as well.

Click&Clean

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... an/?src=ss
- Delete your browsing history
- Clear records from your download history
- Remove cookies and Empty cache
- Delete temporary files
- Remove Flash Local Shared Objects (LSO)
- Delete private data when Firefox closes
- Automatically close all windows/tabs
- Clean up your hard drives and Free up more disk space
- Including secure file deletion
- Using external applications, like CCleaner, Wise Disk Cleaner etc. on Windows or Janitor, BleachBit etc. on Linux
A distinct advantage Click & Clean offers is the ability to interface and execute an external Windows or Linux application upon finishing. Working in tandem with Linux BleachBit, Click & Clean can securely clean and clear up all unwanted or undesired files, logs and even wipe deleted files in unused drive areas.

Eraser

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... 09/?src=ss

Most portable add-on, faster and very handy Private Data Eraser.
By just a click on a button in your toolbar or context menu, You can clear your browser's --
Cookies
Browsing History
Saved form info
Saved passwords
Download History
Cache
Search bar
Flash Local Shared Objects (Flash cookies)
BetterPrivacy

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... cy/?src=ss
Better Privacy serves to protect against special longterm cookies, a new generation of 'Super-Cookie', which silently conquered the Internet. This new cookie generation offers unlimited user tracking to industry and market research. Concerning privacy Flash-cookies are most critical.

This add-on was made to make users aware of those hidden, never expiring objects and to offer an easier way to view and to manage them - since browsers are unable to do that for you.
BetterPrivacy allows users to list and easily manage Flash-cookies, e.g. to remove those objects automatically on browser start, browser exit or by a configurable timer function while certain desired Flash cookies can be excluded from automatic deletion.

Ghostery

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... ry/?src=ss
DETECT
Ghostery sees the "invisible" web, detecting trackers, web bugs, pixels, and beacons placed on web pages by Facebook, Google Analytics, and over 600 other ad networks, behavioral data providers, web publishers - all companies interested in your activity.

and LEARN
After showing you who operates behind the scenes, Ghostery also gives you the opportunity to learn more about each company it identifies, including links to their privacy policy and opt-out options.
I've added Ghostery to this lineup of Internet Cleaners because it functions primarily as a pro-active cleaner as well as a eye-opener. Ghostery's tracking # at a glance on any webpage or website provides the user with how many tracking beacons, bugs and code it finds on that given webpage and gives the user a very easy interface to block those tracking bugs immediately and in the future.

Next, I'd like to focus on altering the appearance of your Internet habits and profiles which are collected by various agency's and then stored in multiple server farms globally. I invite your suggestions for additional computer/device add-ons and applications along those focused lines.

Exploring Ways to Minimise and in cases like TrackMeNot actually alter What Various Agencys Glean from your computer/mobile device and Internet Use & Surfing Habits via Firefox Browser Add-On's and the Linux Mint Anon-Proxy.

TrackMeNot

http://cs.nyu.edu/trackmenot/

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefo ... 869da868ff

Protects privacy in web-search and specifically against multiple global agencys collecting and tracking users web searches. By issuing randomized queries to popular search-engines, including Google, Bing, and Baidu, TrackMeNot obfuscates users' search data profiles. Users can easily adjust which search engines and at what time intervals the automated searches are processed.
Public awareness of the vulnerability of searches to systematic surveillance and logging by search engine companies, was initially raised in the wake of a case, initiated August 2005, in which the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) issued a subpoena to Google for one week's worth of search query records (absent identifying information) and a random list of one million URLs from its Web index. This was cited as part of its defense of the constitutionality of the Child Online Protection Act (COPA). When Google refused, the DOJ filed a motion in a Federal District Court to force compliance. Google argued that the request imposed a burden, would compromise trade secrets, undermine customers' trust in Google, and have a chilling effect on search activities. In March 2006, the Court granted a reduced version of the first motion, ordering Google to provide a random listing of 50,000 URLs, but denied the second motion, namely, the request for search queries.
While viewed from the perspective of user privacy this seems a good outcome, yet it does bring to light several disquieting points. First, from court documents we learn that AOL, Yahoo!, and Microsoft have complied with the government's request, though details are not given. Second, we must face the reality that logs of our online searches are in the hands of search companies and can be quite easily linked to our identities. Thirdly, it is clear we have little idea of, or say in, what can be done with these logs. While, in this instance, Google previously withheld such records from the US Government, it would be foolish to count on this outcome in the future.

AnonymoX is an initiative for anonymization in the internet. The aim is to restore the users right of anonymity in the web. Most websites monitor the behaviour of their users, giving the websites hosts the ability to analyze the general users behaviour and create detailed user profiles, which are then often sold to third parties.

A thread for the freedom of speech on the internet manifests in the repression through federal or private organizations. More and more governments censor websites with the excuse of child safety, copyright infringement or the fight against terrorism and thereby limit the freedom of speech. Also blocking users by based on their origin with GeoIP-Blocks is applied often, for example at Media platforms like YouTube.

With anonymoX you are able to bypass many sorts of blocks by creating a virtual Identity in another Country with only a few mouse clicks.

DeSopa

Free Firefox Browser Add-On for:'DNS Evasion to Stop Oppressive Policy in America' (software authors quote)

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefo ... src=search
I. ABOUT DeSopa:
---------------
Powerful special interests are attempting to force legislation for tighter control of the Internet, because they believe such legislation will preserve their power. The bill they have sponsored, SOPA, not only has severe consequences for the Internet, it doesn't even achieve their objectives. SOPA, under the innocuous banner "Stop Online Piracy Act" will have the following repercussions:

1) Make organizations, such as Google, Facebook, Digg and Reddit liable to censor user generated content. Censoring billions of records for billions of possible violations is expensive. One of these companies has already stated that it may be forced to shut down as a result of the financial burden caused by SOPA. Other companies may have to scale back the services they offer for free, or otherwise charge for them.

2) Provide well financed trade groups such the MPAA and RIAA with leverage to shape the future of the internet for the benefit of the organizations they represent, by threatening closure of services that they believe are not in their interest.

3) Create a high barrier to entry for start-ups and a rough legal landscape for small businesses. If SOPA was implemented 10 years ago, there is a high probability that we would not have many of the online services we take for granted such as YouTube and Pandora.

4) The probable dissolution of DNS caused by the natural circumvention of blocked sites will result in wide array of security problems, bleeding the digital economy of integrity.

The internet creates market efficiencies that forces industries to adapt, thus pushing forward progress for humanity as a whole. Public freedoms should not be curtailed and the Internet, built by the masses, should not be destroyed, so that a powerful few may have a false sense of security that their business models are sustainable without technological evolution.

This program is a proof of concept that SOPA will not help prevent piracy. The program, implemented as a Firefox extension, simply contacts offshore domain name resolution services to obtain the IP address for any desired website, and accesses those websites directly via IP. Similar offshore resolution services will eventually maintain their own cache of websites, without blacklisting, in order to meet the demand created by SOPA.

If SOPA is implemented, thousands of similar and more innovative programs and services will sprout up to provide access to the websites that people frequent. SOPA is a mistake. It does not even technically help solve the underlying problem, as this software illustrates. What it will do is give undue leverage to predatory organizations, cripple innocent third party websites, severely dampen digital innovation and negatively impact the integrity and security of the Internet.

Please bring this to the attention of congressmen responsible for voting on SOPA. SOPA will not technically achieve its stated objectives. Anyone voting in favor of it is morally responsible for destroying the freedoms, innovation, hard work and aspirations of many.

II. HOW TO USE:
---------------------------
- Enable the Status/Add-on bar if it is not enabled (View->Toolbars->Add-on bar)
- Click on the light blue DeSopa button in the Status/Add-on bar, at the bottom of the browser window, to access websites by IP.
- Click the green DeSopa button to switch back to DNS resolution.

III. KNOWN LIMITATIONS:
---------------------------------------
- Can only resolve tabs one at a time.
- First time resolution is a bit slow because three services are checked serially and compared. This may be done in parallel in the future, or a trusted single source may be used.

IV. HOW IT WORKS:
---------------------------------
When turned on, DeSopa intercepts URLs, sends the base URL to three offshore DNS services via HTTP, makes a best effort to check that two of them are equivalent, caches the IP for the browser session, redirects to the equivalent URL using the IP, and substitutes out the domain name in the source code with the IP address for future requests.

V. DISCLAIMER:
------------------------
DESOPA IS MEANT TO BE A PROOF OF CONCEPT TO SHOW THAT THERE ARE SEVERE FLAWS IN SOPA, AND THAT LEGISLATION OF SOPA WILL RESULT IN VARIOUS TECHNICAL PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS THAT WRECK HAVOC ON THE INTERNET. DESOPA RESOLVES IP ADDRESSES BY CONSULTING OFFSHORE SERVERS FOR WHICH DESOPA AND ITS AUTHOR HAVE NO CONTROL. YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED NOT TO USE DESOPA WHILE ENTERING ANY PRIVATE OR PERSONAL INFORMATION, UNLESS YOU VERIFY THE ACCURACY OF THE IP ADDRESS YOU ARE CONTACTING YOURSELF. YOU ARE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR USE OR MISUSE OF THIS SOFTWARE.

This thread has covered several users tools which mask, alter and anonymously change footprints, tracking and data collection by various agencys on Internet Users.

Next we come to setting up and running elite highly anonymous proxy servers which serve to form the very backbone of a free and open Internet.

Squid Web Proxy

The Squid Web Proxy has binarys and compiled files for a wide range of OS/Distro's.[1][2][3] The Synaptic Package Manager for Debian,Ubuntu,Mint show a large assortment of Squid Proxy Server and GUI,GTK,CGI,DEB enhancement additional modules.

What makes the Squid Web Proxy ideal in setting up an elite Highly Anonymous Proxy Server is how easy it makes it to simply configure to delete ALL forwarding header information and IP address's from those using that proxy server.

How to Set Up a Debian Linux Elite Highly Anonymous Proxy Server using the free Squid Web Proxy software

http://www.ehow.com/how_6626293_set-hig ... erver.html

The 7 outlined steps listed in the above link are moderately easy using gedit to simply add the delete information into the Squid Proxy configuration file. The same would work for all OS/Distros which the Squid Proxy was setup on.

How to Set Up an Apache Sever Mod_Proxy

http://www.ehow.com/how_8761030_set-up-modproxy.html

Mod_proxy is a Apache addon-application which turns the Apache web server into a Reverse or Forward Proxy Server.

Forward Proxy: A user request is taken and then passed to the origin server while some of the user IP data has been stripped giving a sense of being proxyed.

Reverse Proxy: A user request is taken and then passed to an anonymous server which supplies the requested content back while the proxy is masked as if it was the original server.

The listed 5 Steps for each specific Apache Server Proxy mode (after you have loaded in that module) are straight forward however the Who To steps are listed as 'moderately challenging' in the aforementioned link above.

Opinion: Hands down the Best Setup IMO is the lightening fast Squid Web Proxy running in elite Highly Anonymous Proxy mode, however Forward and Reverse Proxy's have their strengths and uses which the server owner(s) must individually decide is the best proxy server to have and setup for them.

Tourists BANNED from U.S. over 1-2 Twitter jokes, labelled inadmissible and returned to their country of residence (kicked out of the US) before the British couple could even begin their long-awaited vacation.

http://technolog.msnbc.msn.com/_news/20 ... tter-jokes

From the scant information which landed this couple on a terrorist watch list and forbidden to return to the US, it took merely two social network sentences which agencys who actively search twitter, facebook, google+ etc. look for and it sounds like there was no notification of the couple landing on the terrorist watch list prior to being detained by armed guards under orders of US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
In the tweet in question, addressed to a fellow Twitter user who goes by "@Melis********," he wrote "free this week for a quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?"

Despite telling officials the term 'destroy' was British slang for 'party', they were held on suspicion of planning to 'commit crimes' and had their passports confiscated. ... Federal agents even searched [Bryan's] suitcase looking for spades and shovels, claiming [Bunting] was planning to act as [Bryan's] 'look out' while he raided Marilyn's tomb.

The two were quizzed for five hours before being "put in a van with illegal immigrants and locked up overnight," writes the Sun. They were then kept in separate holding cells for 12 hours before being put on a flight home.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation said this month that it's looking for a developer who can create an application to scan and scrape information from a variety of public sites and from government terrorism data.

The app would have the ability to "instantly search and monitor key words and strings in all 'publicly available' tweets across the Twitter site and any other 'publicly available' social networking sites/forums (i.e. Facebook, MySpace, etc.)"

This "social media analysis" would be to:

"Detect potential threats, develop threat profiles, outline possible courses-of-action, determine timeframe for action by bad actors, identify and develop tactical picture of the location for threat events, and develop intelligence products for counter-measures."

In regards to connecting the dots on what the US Gov. has under the label of National Security conducted behind the scenes in warrant-less data collection not only of US Citizens but in regards to the recent Carrier IQ keylogger exposure, citizens personal and private information on a global basis.[1] I feel this narrow side issue of mentioning the Police Enforcement Tool, Carrier IQ is in keeping with focused discussion on Internet providers such as Google collecting your personal information for what could be very questionable purposes.

The FBI is now admitting the 141+ MILLION devices infected with the rootkit spy/keylogger Carrier IQ program is used for Law Enforcement purposes.[2] I had no doubt that was the case as zero device carriers would stick their CEO's and reputation out on the limb by infecting their users mobile devices without warrants UNLESS they were ordered first by the US Dept. Of Justice AND have letters of immunity to that effect to ward off massive civil litigation backlashes when it was exposed.[1]

Contrast that statement with the canned US carrier Sprint 'previous' response when Carrier IQ was FIRST exposed:
Sprint spokesman Jason Gertzen:
Carrier IQ is used to understand what problems customers are having with our network or devices so we can take action to improve service quality. It collects enough information to understand the customer experience with devices on our network and how to devise solutions to use and connection problems. We do not and cannot look at the contents of messages, photos, videos, etc., using this tool.
Nonetheless, the exposure of the massive Carrier IQ police-state program not only being conducted across USA but many foreign nations brought a huge end-user backlash forcing device carriers to scramble in updating their end-users privacy policy's. One popular carrier in effect wrote that ALL data sent thru it's carrier were 'owned' by that carrier. This occurred prior to the MegaUpload FBI multi-nation crack-down however one could see that carrier as de facto 'owning' all illegal content, documents and files sent thru that carriers equipment as per their new end-user policy.[3][4][5]

Internet Privacy's Progress Update:

While many major websites check and cache your IP physical location, several now automatically broadcast your location not only to yourself but to all of it's 3rd. party advertisers and news worthy data for your location. Yahoo,MSNBC,Google and some others also show your location to you as you browse their webpages and insert that location into any content included forums, blogs or emails under their control.

Sometimes, the provider asks for more specific addressing such as city, zip code, others sparingly ask if you want to stop disclosing your physical address to the world controlled by that provider. Given those choices one could enter a zip code at the other end of the State a US citizen is located in OR they could try and trust a provider listing a opt-out of posting that to all of their advertising 3rd. party members while fully realising any agency demanding such information would certainly obtain it from them without warrant nor any consent from yourself.

Using two of the aforementioned, described Firefox Free Add-On's:

Re: Google Now Wants All YOUR Personal Information

Been using a number of those security add ons for a while now...gots to love them. Its not about tin hats...if anyone values their privacy in any way its a nice simple and necessary way to protect it. Hell, as Linux users and the built in security Linux provides i think anyone could agree with that....even if it took some of us longer than others to figure out

At the very top of the link which KBD47 provides we find this alleged Myth vs Fact posted:
Myth: In 2011, Google made $36 billion selling information about users like you. [Fairsearch]

Fact: Google does not sell, trade or rent personally identifiable user information. Advertisers can run ads on Google that are matched to search keywords, or use our services to show ads based on anonymous data, such as your location or the websites you’ve visited.
In response I submit to the readers this Google News Website http://news.google.com/
To the Right of that News Google Webpage visitors find YOUR STATE/LOCAL LOCATION and pertinent links to that States/Location news agencys, newspapers etc. Those sites certainly appear to PAY GOOGLE for referring visitors to them, in turn visitors who pay to become subscribers or other services also appear to PAY GOOGLE a referral fee. It appears entirely obvious Google Sells and Trades personally identifiable user information based on this simple to verify glance.

Please remember KBD47, Google won't roll out all of it's new policy changes supposedly until MARCH 2012 that's still another 30 days from now and many Internet Users won't even see all of those creepy cross platform inclusive Google following actions until then.

Many major Internet Service Providers have already behind the scenes made significant privacy invasive changes regarding visitors to their websites and linked collective web of advertisers and services. While some of this could be seen as the result of a distinct chilling factor resulting from high level US Department of Justice (DOJ) cases regarding Piracy and National Security issues, it could certainly in MY OPINION be viewed as a nationally orchestrated agenda behind the scenes dictated by the US DOJ, US Pentagon which appears parallel to the actions of a police state.

Several in this thread have commented they are entirely comfortable with Google and Other Corporate,Private or US DOJ agency's following their every action from cradle to grave 24/7. While I seriously question their honesty in such a notion, that is their life and view on the subject and issues presented in this thread.

I also seriously question the end-use ethics behind the collection of US and Global citizens Internet searches, Websites visited, Emails, Text messages, GPS locations, Chatroom transcripts, Documents, Files read and downloaded ALL under the warrant-less guise of being friendly or not intended to bring me or a loved one harm. Such isn't being paranoid, it is being mature and fully cognicent of living and surviving in a police state. Internet users have had FBI and other agencys falsely raid their homes without any warning over a hacked IP address or hacked WIFI connection. However the major question is the end-use ethics employed by anyone obtaining all that information about YOU.

A Dangerous Parallel

During the horrific period of US prohibition of Alcohol,Italian and Jewish Mafia's grew in influence and wealth Thousands Fold and had tens of thousands of law enforcement, judges and political leaders in their pockets. What their paid employees in State,Federal xyz knew was either immediately passed on or if a gang made a custom inquiry to one or more of their paid employees in those agencys, departments they would collect that information using all of their resources in that agency, department and pass that back to that organised criminal organisation.[1][2][3][4][5]
Prohibition also fostered corruption and contempt for law and law enforcement among large segments of the population. Harry Daughtery, attorney general under Warren Harding, accepted bribes from bootleggers. George Remus, a Cincinnati bootlegger, had a thousand salesmen on his payroll, many of them police officers. He estimated that half his receipts went as bribes. Al Capone's Chicago organization reportedly took in $60 million in 1927 and had half the city's police on its payroll.[1]
Prohibition (of Alcohol then [1920-30] as 'illegal' drugs now) was supposed to lower crime and corruption, reduce social problems, lower taxes needed to support prisons and poorhouses, and improve health and hygiene in America. Instead, Alcohol became more dangerous to consume; organised crime blossomed; courts and prisons systems became overloaded; and endemic corruption of police and public officials occurred.[3]
During Prohibition,Jewish gangsters became major operatives in the American underworld and played prominent roles in the distribution of illegal alcohol and the spread of organised crime throughout the United States. At the time, Jewish gangs operated primarily in America's largest cities, including Cleveland, Detroit, Minneapolis, Newark, New York City, and Philadelphia. Numerous bootlegging gangs such as the Bug and Meyer Mob headed by Meyer Lansky and Bugsy Siegel and Abe Bernstein's Purple Gang [5] would see the rise of Jewish-American organized crime to its height. Other mobsters included Dutch Schultz, Moe Dalitz, Charles "King" Solomon and Abner "Longy" Zwillman became wealthy during Prohibition.[4]
NOW, it appears the Mexican Drug Cartels are doing the same as the aforementioned criminal organisations had previously during the Alcohol prohibition era with police, agents, border guards etc. on their payrolls. If those law enforcement individuals or agents can access all of YOUR personal 24/7 information as outlined above, it is entirely likely a Mexican Drug Cartel could also via their State,Federal xyz pay-rolled employees.[7][8][9]
