Can't Found Dell S2218H Monitor Driver and want to customize screen

Post by pollob1563 »

Hello?
I installed Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia version. It installed well. But it is a matter of sorrow that there have not found any kind of monitor driver and I can't customize my screen. How can I resolve it?

What do you want to do?

You need to post some additional info. Use these commands in the Terminal and post the output: inxi -SMCGx and
xrandr --verbose

For an output with many lines, copy the output, open the Mint Forum reply window and select </> at the top. Press Ctrl+V to paste the copied lines into a code display window.

I assume you can’t change the resolution from 1024x768 to 1600x900? The monitor’s EDID can’t be read so that resolution can't be used and it is called Unknown.

Use these commands in the Terminal:

Code: Select all

xrandr --newmode "1600x900_60.00" 118.25 1600 1696 1856 2112 900 903 908 934 -hsync +vsync
xrandr --addmode DP-1 1600x900_60.00
xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 1600x900_60.00
If that works, then open the Display program and click the Apply button, to save the settings.

Then open the File Manager. Hidden files should be made visible. Open the .profile file and add the first 2 xrandr commands at the bottom.

If you can see the login box at the login screen, then there is no need to change the resolution.

If you can’t, then open the File Manager. Create a document in Home (/home/your-user-name) named .login and add this line: xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 1600x900

Right click on the file and select Properties > Permissions. Mark the checkbox next to Allow executing file as program.

Use this command to open the lightdm.conf file for editing: xed admin:///etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

If the file doesn’t exist, then open the 70-linuxmint.conf file:
xed admin:///etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf.d/70-linuxmint.conf

Add this line: display-setup-script=/home/your-user-name/.login, changing your-user-name to your actual user name.

If it doesn’t work, then reboot and try logging out again.

Open the .login file and change this line: xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 1600x900

To this: xrandr --output DP-1 --mode 1024x768
