Drivers For Graphics Card on 19.3 MATE

Post by jman200 »

Hi all,

I am trying to figure out how to install the correct drivers for a three monitor setup on this machine. The drivers are not found with the driver manager or

Code: Select all

sudo ubuntu-drivers
here is the results from

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxxxrz
please note three Network devices I am using a USB to Ethernet as this kernel will not support the on board card but some of the programs I need to run are not compatible with Mint 20+ so please disregard them.

Code: Select all

That kernel went end of life several years ago. Please either upgrade to the 5.4 kernel or downgrade to the 4.15 kernel so you are using a supported kernel. That may be why you are having issues.

Instructions for upgrading to the 5.4 kernel:
  • Open Update Manager.
  • Select View > Linux Kernels and click Continue.
  • Make sure 5.4 is selected on the left panel and then click the top-most option on the right panel. An "Install" button will appear.
  • Install the kernel and then reboot for it to become active.
Also, do not boot in compatibility mode and do not boot with nomodeset because either of those options will prevent the graphics driver from loading.

The graphic driver for Intel is in the kernel. There is nothing for you to install separately.
Graphics:
Device-1: Intel driver: N/A bus ID: 00:02.0 chip ID: 8086:4571
Display: x11 server: X.Org 1.20.4 driver: fbdev unloaded: modesetting,vesa
compositor: marco resolution: 1024x768~76Hz
OpenGL: renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 10.0.0 128 bits) v: 3.3 Mesa 20.0.8 compat-v: 3.1
direct render: Yes

Looks like your system is missing a lot of drivers. Please try the 5.4 kernel.

Good catch SMG!

My bad I was trying older Kernels before posting this but I have had no luck sadly :(

Here is the correct output:

Any ideas? Is there a way to load those missing drivers? ( I have also tried to reinstall the system with no luck maybe a bad Iso? )

The drivers should load automatically when the kernel boots. One does not load them separately.

If you boot to a live session of Linux Mint and the drivers are not showing as loaded, then I would suggest downloading an ISO from a different mirror site and trying again. Once in a while I've seen people post that are missing Intel graphics and usually a new ISO fixes the issue.

Let us know the output of inxi -Gx on the live session.

Copy I will start downloading a new iso.

Here is the output of

It's an Intel 10th generation processor with integrated graphics which was launched in Q1 of 2021 after Linux Mint 20 was released let alone Mint 19.3. So try an ISO with kernel 5.15 (Mint 21), kernel 5.13 (Mint 20.3 Edge) or minimum kernel 5.10 (LMDE5)

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en ... 0-ghz.html

Programs can be run in VM if necessary. Double up on the RAM and your quad core will cope okay with VMs.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

Maybe I transposed digits when I checked earlier because what I saw then said it came out in 2016. That's not what I'm seeing now so I did something wrong then.

Sorry about that jman200.

antikythera is correct that your system will need a newer kernel in order to get the necessary drivers.

Very easily done, copy and paste is my preferred method when dealing with Intel products

Aw dang it :( I was hoping that wasn’t the case I might have to try a different OS besides mint on this particular machine maybe even the dreaded windows  I’ve been running Mint 19.3 on all of my other hardware and it has worked so well. I was hoping to do the same on this new hardware. The only program I have had a hard time getting to work is https://www.ui.com/download/utilities/ Air Control 2 By ubiquity from what I can tell it is not compatible with the new OpenGL included with Mint 20+

Any ideas?

Also thank you for your guys/gals help it’s super appreciated!

I will have to look into a VM for the one program. Got any good reading material for me? I am not well versed in VMs on linux

Keep it simple and use virtualbox from the ubuntu repositories. It's dead easy to configure a linux VM as the setup wizard lets you choose what system the new VM is for and makes recommendations based on your answer (it even chooses the best virtualisation method). After installation of the operating system to the VM, insert the guest additions ISO from the device options menu in the VM window. That will allow better integration of KB and mouse, plus nicer display resolution and scaling.

There are guides about using the software but honestly most are outdated and based on using Windows as the host, where you'd be using linux to host linux. You can easily delete a VM and start again if need be and there's an option to snapshot a VM state too.

It's really best to have a play around with it and I am sure you will find it fairly intuitive.

When using virtualbox, avoid the temptation to install a newer kernel branch than the current LTS branch which in the case of Mint 21 is 5.15 until such point it is updated too. It takes virtualbox a few weeks to catch up with new kernel releases, so during that time the program fails to run properly.
I’ll tell you a DNS joke but be advised, it could take up to 24 hours for everyone to get it.

I found a Install Ubiquiti Unifi Controller on Ubuntu 20.04.

One can use the 5.15 kernel with LM20 versions (Ubuntu 20.04). You would want to start with the Linux Mint 20.3 "Una" - Cinnamon (Edge) ISO . It has the 5.13 kernel and will automatically update to the 5.15 kernel.

That's another option to consider although given your hardware I think LM21 is probably a better fit because you'll be able to update to newer kernels (which will work better with 12th-gen Intel).

I just found this Unify control center on ubuntu server 22.04? (getting mongodb to install) but they are running on Raspberry Pi and I don't know if that is the same software you are asking about.

Unfortunately that's for the Unifi controller for the WiFi side of Ubiquiti. The program I use is for monitoring Ubiquiti AirMax devices. I would be working with the client portion of Air Control 2 but they aren't providing support for linux integrations anymore so I gotta figure out my next step. :)

The first link I provided (not the one you quoted) has a link in the comments to a script which appears to be on the UniFi Community forums area. Maybe there is something else on that board which might help you.
