How to resize screen for HDTV

Postby knewk » Sat May 25, 2013 4:20 pm

Hi, Im new to the forums and need a little assistance.

I have an older PC that I've been using as an HTPC with windows and XBMC. I'm tired of all the problems that I get from using windows and want to switch it up over to linux for better stability. Only thing is is that the screen is larger than my TV and cant see the full desktop.

When I first hooked up the HTPC to my TV (55 inch ) with windows I was able to scale the size down while keeping my resolution at 1080 by adjusting the x and y through an nvidia tool. I just put in the live CD for Mint but I cant figure out how to do that. I can change the resolutions, but anything other than 1080 looks horrible and just want to make it so I can see the whole screen by adjusting the X Y axis. I've looked online and haven't seen a way how to.

If anyone can help I would appreciate it.

A search of xrandr and 1080 resulted in this usefull information... ... 0p-output/

Its not your problem exactally, but close.
Xrandr allows you to scale the X display.
I'm not entirely sure your exact problem, but this will get us started.

I'm just guessing, so verify the following parameters before testing on your own hardware.

Code: Select all

xrandr --output LVDS --size 1920x1080 --fbmm 1920x1080 --scale 1.25x1.2
