Anyproblems with Radeon 4250 and latest Mint/Cinnamon?

Post by johnb0647 » Wed Jan 08, 2014 1:36 am

I've been a Ubuntu user for seven years. When Unity appeared I gaged and jumped to Mint but had problems with the integrated Radeon 4250 graphics on my MB with both Cinnamon and Mate. So I had to learn to live with Unity. Then a couple months ago a Unity update scrambled my Unity display. Forums couldn't help. I tried installing the latest Cinnamon on top of Ubuntu 13.04 and it worked great. So I stripped out Unity and I'm a happy camper.

Except I'm half in one camp and half in another. Using Cinnamon and Nemo but all other straight Ubuntu. Ubuntu One client is a little strange and doesn't show up in settings..... little things like that.

So I'm thinking about going straight Mint/Cinnamon but those problems I had with the 4250 worry me. I'm a user, I don't go swapping OS's around just for fun and adventure.

SO......... any known problems with Mint/Cinnamon and the Radeon HD4250 GP display that's integrated into the AMD 880G/SB850 chipset?

TIA

t

Put it simply.
Mint 14, 15, 16 and beyond DO NOT support proprietary driver of AMD's HD4xxx series.

Either you stay with free radeon graphic driver,
or use Old version ( Mint 13 supports till 2017) that support proprietary driver.
