SOLVED-Upgraded to latest NVidia 1st w No Issues in Years !!

Post by ack0329 »

OK so I wanted to try and get steam working better w Shadow of Mordor and felt like trying the dreaded upgrade Nvidia, which invariably screws up my system and requires a clean reinstall (30/30 times in the last 5 years).

Note: This is an Optimus System :?

Here is how it worked. Basically my optimism was with a new ppa called ...
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa :D (add it w this command)

Be sure to remove the problematic ppa's ....
sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo add-apt-repository --remove ppa:mamarley/nvidia

Purge Nvidia (perhaps not needed but a good idea)
sudo apt-get purge nvidia*
and remove any bumblebee or bbswitch files and even primus (reinstall after the the driver to be sure it plays well with it - not bumblebee though ... leave it uninstalled)

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and ...
reboot to a non Nvidia Driver desktop

Now for the install
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install nvidia-352 nvidia-settings bbswitch-dkms nvidia-prime nvidia-prime-applet
(Can add through Synaptic too)
No Bumblebee or Primus !!

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade, and ...
reboot to the Newest and working Nvidia Driver desktop.

I sure hope this helps all new games now that Steam is beginning to Roll - Awesome :wink:
