Driver Manager NOT working

Post by k357k9 »

My Mate 17.2 Driver Manager will not let me do anything. It is locked on "Continue using a manually installed driver". All options are disabled including "Revert" and "Apply Changes".
Rebooting does not fix it.
How can I get it working again?

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

You might be successful in installing the closed non-free driver by means of the terminal:

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install fglrx
Afterwards, reboot your computer.

Bingo! That did it! Thanks.
Do you think I should install the recommended driver -- xserver-xorg-video-ati?

Only when the fglrx doesn't perform well... Usually, the closed non-free driver does the best job. :)
