New NVIDIA 180.22 Works in My Mint System Just Fine

Post by sharpie2009 » Tue Jan 13, 2009 10:37 pm

Hi folks, I thought I'd let you know that I have successfully updated my NVIDIA Drivers to the latest version for Linux:

NVIDIA-Linux-x86-180.22-pkg1.run

Linux Display Driver - x86
Version: 180.22
Operating System: Linux x86
Release Date: January 8, 2009

details here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_disp ... 80.22.html

I installed the driver using the NVIDIA method as described in the website and not the builtin utility in Mint. It went smoothly, without a hitch. I have better luck intalling this Linux driver in Mint than I had with its Windows counterpart that did not install successfully load in my WinXP dual boot OS.

Have a nice day! :D

I have found the 180 series beta driver to be one of the least buggy drivers Nvida has come out with in a long time. I hope this is a good omen for the future. :-)

It is a Sparkle Brand, GeForce 9400 GT, PCI-Express 16x with 512MB memory.

When I consider that the Windows version of this driver (181.22) caused BSOD on my WinXP and the fact that proprietary graphics drivers have been blamed for problems with Linux operations in the past, I cant help but marvel at the seamless integration of NVIDIA drivers in my Mint System. This is the second time I've updated NVIDIA; the first was version 177.xx which also installed smoothly- all by using NVIDIA's installer.

Good luck!

you don't know how happy I am to have that driver work for me. I'v tried countless distros of linux and none of them would install the drive via NV method. This was quite annoying as I bought a new card like a year ago. (8800 GS) so I had to use XP. I just wounder when are they going to fix this problem in the other distros.
