Screen tearing on NVIDIA Geforce 920M

Post by isacdan »

Hi,

I recently got a new laptop (Dell Inspiron 5558) with a Geforce 920M card.
I get bad screen tearing on Linux Mint 17.3 when using the Nouveau drivers and even worse so when using the proprietary drivers. It doesn't matter what driver I use, I get bad screen tearing.
My Nvidia settings program doesn't have a Sync to vblank option. What should I do to get rid of the tearing?

Which versions of the proprietary driver have you used?

Try the nvidia-358, by means of the graphics-drivers PPA:

I've tried the newer driver just now. I get the same tearing.

Please generate an overview of your system like this:
- Launch a terminal window (this is how to launch a terminal window);
- make the terminal window full screen, to avoid chopped lines;
- copy/paste this command into the terminal:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
(if you type: the letter F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Copy/paste the output in your next message.

Using the same laptop with the same GPU, getting a lot of screen tearing even with unity DE (I am using ubuntu), will post the details of inxi -Fxz in a while.
Thanks!

The same issue I already solve @Ubuntu 64bit using this manual (for the same laptop of course): https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php ... st13663158 but it doesn't work in a way that Prime synchronization is not enabled (there is no line added in xrandr --verbose ).
I am sure that this manual is capable to fix this issue, but for some reason doesnt work for Mint :(
Any suggestion pls?
Ty
