Felicia-monitor resolution will not go to 1280x1024 RESOLVED

Post by madevan » Sat Jan 31, 2009 1:44 pm

The way monitor resolutions in Mint seem to have altered in Felicia - I do not know how to fix my problem
FIRST: the monitor is a X10D and Does support 1280x1024 (60mhz)
SECOND: I am running the NVIDIA proprietary drivers (177)
BUT I cannot change the settings - 1024x768 is the best I can get - now back in Daryna I did achieve 1280x1024
so HOW do I tweak my system to get it now PLEASE!?
I enclose lspci: lspci

Re: Felicia-monitor resolution will not go to 1280x1024 REOPENED

I'm supposed to be a computer professional!!
If I HAD done what Husse had suggested i'd be ok now!
BUT I have the same problem on Felicia x64 and I cannot find the fix that worked before - i'm certain is was a from a post initiated from me BUT that is now academic!
I cannot set my monitor to 1280x1024
I HAVE tried copying some settings from the x32 felicia partition /etc/X11/xorg.conf BUT no go
SO can anyone help Please?
same machine details as above

Thanks

:(

This problem is still unsolved - I seem to have this problem with every mint version - anyway I have installed SuSE 11 on my other PC and in the end may have to make this my main OS for a while - I do not want to return to Windoze just yet!

Thanks for all the help you guys have given in the past - Mint is a wonderful distro

Ciao

When I read this I don't really get it :)
I suppose you still can't get the right resolution
Two things
Check in /etc/X11 that xorg.conf has Driver "nvidia" and nothing else (there is only one entry Driver unless you have dual monitors) If there is no mention of Driver (and that is normal in Felicia) you should add
Driver "nvidia"
to Section Device (again there is only one unless you have dual monitors)
Second - check Nvidia settings - use gksu to get them sticky
This still is a problem although minor now....

Thanks Husse - the problem HAS progressed but not yet solved. - Was able to add the driver as you suggested - in nvidia-settings optioons appeared to set to 1280x1024 60Hz - but I cannot make them permanent -
I have ran gksudo nvidia-settings - saved and rebooted - settings lost - I ran a failsafe system - altered again - rebooted - when I logon i get a box saying "in Failsafe mode Please re-configure the display timing of your system. Resolution :1024x768@85Hz For best screen use: 1280 x 1024 @60Hz"
Please point me in the direction so I can get this sorted.
Please

Thanks again

Is this a LCD monitor - I could not find anything for X10D
If you don't use twinview add this

Code: Select all

Option "DynamicTwinView" "False"
in Section "Device" in xorg.conf
Makes it possible to get a higher refresh rate - but note that a LCD or TFT monitor is never to run at more than 75 Hz
A higher refresh rate makes it all work better
Resolution should be set in the Screen Resolution applet but can be set in nvidia settings as well
There are two parts of it one on the main (first) tab that has to do with resolutions and the like and another for colour and such

Got IT! Husse! Many Many thanks
in the end I did this

1. I added Driver "nvidia" to the section device in /etc/X11/xorg.conf (as root of course else it will not allow editing)
2. I added Option "DynamicTwinView" "False" to the same file and same section (In my case I think it was not needed but What Husse suggests I do!
3. in terminal gksudo nvidia-settings set to 1280x1024 and set MHz to 60 (recommended settings for my monitor)
4. I then went into screen resolution screen (which up to now I had NOT done!) and set the resolution and refresh rate there too.

THEN Voila! When I logged off and back on the settings REMAINED!

I hope someone else finds this useful sometime somewhere

Once again Husse THANKS.
