Apparently does not seem to work right with the 16.60 driver you get the error after modifying the file line 129: amdgpu_pro_./amdinstall: No such file or directory

Any ideas, I am trying to help someone install his amd 480

You need to make sure that when you run the command:

./amdgpu-pro-install -y

That you are actually in the directory where the file amdgpu-pro-install is located.

And my instructions work perfectly because I just did them yesterday with the 16.60 drivers.

I followed lennyz instructions but when i reboot cinnamon crashes and goes to fallback mode. I am on linux mint 18.1 cinnamon and rx 480 G1 card. Driver is AMDGPU-pro 16.60.

No errors.
So what should I do ? Should I just wait for new driver version or what ?

I got the 16.60 drivers working on my HD7850 using the instructions in the OP.

So far, on my entirely unscientific eyeball test, I'd say performance might be slightly worse than the normal radeon driver. And on Bomi (video player) I've lost hardware acceleration options for video playback.

Thanks. I tried kernel 4.8.0.-34 and now everything seems to be OK. I watched 1080p videos and everything was smooth. Is there any commands which I could use and make sure that everything is as it should be.

Okay so i tried this and it doesn't work. I modded the executable file for amdgpu pro but whenever i execute it, it just stops working immediately.
I have an AMD Radeon R7M440 which is on the list stated on http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb-article ... Notes.aspx
If i display the system information from mint menu it states that it's using the Intel integrated graphic card.
Willing to show you any result of commands, help would be appreciated.

I updated my driver to 4.8.0 and now the keyboard and mouse are not recognized by my system. I have no idea what to do now.

I was able to uninstall the 4.8.0 kernel and get access to my mouse and keyboard again. But using the 4.4.0 kernel gives the unsupported OS error.

I have updated my kernel to a stable 4.8.0 version and still receive the "Unsupported OS" error. Did you do anything else special?

Wow, I didn't expect my thread to still be getting this much attention. 8)

If you are still getting an unsupported os message, you can try removing the case statement in the install script entirely, and just using the chunk of code that installs the driver. I would post a modified version, but I don't have time and I'm on a computer where I can't test it. I hope this helps some people. :mrgreen:

So is anyone who managed to get these drivers going playing games here and would you say this helped boost things in this regard? I want to know if it's worth going through the effort of getting these to work.

I got it working on an HD7850. Unfortunately, I don't have many demanding games installed. I've been playing Super Meat Boy. The game moves fast, but isn't particularly demanding. With the new drivers, it seemed to not be as smooth. But I didn't compare my FPS. As the screen scrolled as I moved my character, everything just seemed a bit more jittery. I reverted back to the normal radeon driver.

Just want to report I was successful in installing the latest AMD drivers ('amdgpu-pro-16.60-379184') on Mint 18.1. Had to upgrade the kernel to 4.8.0-36 because cinnamon was crashing after installation with 4.4 kernels. The kernel upgrade itself also came with amdgpu drivers (not 'pro' however) and this was enough to play 1080p videos etc. I still installed the pro drivers from AMD to get the HDMI sound working.

Anybody who got it running for the Rx480? I need the openCL functionality badly. I am sure I followed all instructions, but the platform still doesn't show up in clinfo. When I run inxi -Gx I get

Graphics: Card: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Device 67df
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: fbdev (unloaded: vesa)
Resolution: 1920x1200@77.00hz
GLX Renderer: N/A GLX Version: N/A

To me this seems to indicate that the RX480 is still not recognized?
