Colour Profiles ignored in Mint18 Cinnamon?

Post by Unis_Torvalds »

Hi there, just installed Mint 18 on an old Samsung ultrabook and I really really need to calibrate this monitor.

However, whenever I apply an ICC profile in the stock "Colour" app or in xcalib, the profile is applied for one screen refresh then the screen reverts to default (meaning I see a flicker of the desired output, then back to original. The Colour app still indicates the new profile is applied, but it's not).

Interestingly, I get the same result with xgamma (which is to say, no result, although xgamma retains my manual settings).

Is anyone else out there experiencing this?
Thanks

Update: Experiencing the exact same issue with Argyll/DispCal and dispwin. ICC profile loads for a split second then reverts. This is hurting my eyes. Someone please help...

SOLVED

Well this is embarrassing, but it seems that I had f.lux running in the background, which was overriding my manual colour profiles.
I would have hoped f.lux would have simply adjusted the hue/brightness of the base display profile, but alas it seems to load its own. Maybe Redshift is more what I'm looking for.

redshift "takes over" as well. Per their documentation if you really cared about having a calibrated monitor you wouldn't be using it anyway.

Thanks for the reply.

Sometimes I'm doing colour sensitive work and care about calibration, sometimes I'm just answering emails at night. Would be nice to have a time-of-day app that simply overlaid "filters" on top of my existing icc profile, but i recognize this is edge case. Nothing for it but to flip the apps on and off manually.
