Machine pauses on reboot after installing nvidia 1060

Post by strider3700 »

My machine seems to freeze on reboot for about 25 seconds ever since I installed a 1060 and the proprietary drivers. checking dmesg I see

google suggested that the initial message about your system is not currently configured to drive a vga console isn't a serious issue. The soft lockup is likely to be the issue but I can't figure out what actually causes it or how to fix it. I had been running the nvidia-367 drivers but recently updated to nvidia-370. That made no difference. Beyond that I'm running 18.1 completely up to date. The machine seems to run fine other than this pause at reboot.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
