Hii , i had problem with install LM 19 with AMD Radeon Rx570 GPU
i've tried to install LM 19.1 & 19.2 with no luck , at first boot from USB it's show blank screen , i had to use compatibility mode to start, after i've install it , it also blank screen after grub, tried nomodeset parameter it's boot but too slow , try to install the AMDGPU-PRO driver , remove xorg-radeon driver no luck still slow, try to update the kernel to 4.18 also no luck cannot boot without nomodeset, any recommendation to try ? thanks before

using nomodeset at boot from grub menu
upgrade kernel to 5.0
make sure your Mesa version is updated
next boot should be normal without using nomodeset

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Can I get some tips on how to get my new install of 19.2 working nicely please?
PC specs
i74770k
Asus Z87 expert
16GB RAM
AMD RX Vega 56 (not a 64 as reported below)
It seems I have about a 1in4 chance of booting with kernel 4.15.0-64. I've tried with and without nomodeset. Its seemingly random if it works or not.
Also got a reoccurring Cinnamon just crashed. error. Unsure if this is related to my GPU issue or not.
I've tried updating to kernel 5.0.0-29. That wouldn't boot with or without nomodeset.
I haven't tried installing any drivers from AMD or anywhere else.
I don't think its a hardware issue as the whole setup works fine when running Windows 7 off another SSD.
Should I try random 5.x kernels to see if any work? Should I try installing the AMD drivers ?

I can enter only in recovery mode and a warning tells me that no acceleration graphics running. Please give me some help because i can not run my linux properly. i give the inxi -Fxz i think you may need.

@VDemian
please open a new thread with your issue. this thread you are in is mainly for tutorial purposes. if you can boot with your live linux and restore a timeshift snapshot. by now i shouldn't even have to say it. if people don't take the precautions and protect themselves with a timeshift backup, it must mean you don't want that linux very much.

Am now on Mesa 19.3.0-devel. Still seem to have a 1in6 chance of booting. It's weird how it is completely inconsistent.trytip wrote: ⤴Mon Sep 23, 2019 9:32 am upgrade your mesa drivers https://launchpad.net/~oibaf/+archive/u ... cs-drivers first

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Hi everybody,
I'm using an APU including the Radeon HD 8750 graphics unit and also notice unsatisfactory operation of the the default driver. For any reason the output is scaled, leading to a cut of the desktop by the physical borders of the monitor and an unsharp appearance of all lettering. The panel is not fully shown, only at enlarged panel height the leftmost menu icon becomes partly visible. The system configuration is as follows:
The ASUS 24T1E monitor is recognized as Ancor Communications Inc. 23".
Trying to get a better desktop appearance with xrandr and appropriate options may succeed in correcting the desktop cuts, but the lettering keeps unsharp due to re-scaling of a scaled output.
In case I start the system in recovery mode without graphics driver and acceleration, the desktop is not cut and all lettering is sharp, i.e. statically it looks fine, of course it lacks graphics performance. The graphics section of the inxi output looks different now:
In recovery mode a message indicates poor graphics performance and prompts to start the driver manager to solve this problem. However, this fails during download of the repository information showing the message:
So my question is: Can I get a fitting and sharp desktop and satisfactory graphics performance (no 3D, Gaming etc.) at the same time?
In other words, how the unnecessary scaling by the driver is avoidable? Of course I would prefer to start the system correctly in automated manner instead of re-adjusting the graphics output afterwards by terminal commands.
There is only one reference to the HD 8570 graphics in this forum thread (by Calboy386, Jan 17, 2019), which seems to be not helpful to me.
I would very much appreciate helpful replies, thanks in advance!

remove the spotify ppa from Software Sources it's in the menu then update your system. you should not have any drivers to install
when you open display from the system settings control center and you use the dropdown to get resolutions have you tried them all?

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Well, it seems I finally found right place for my issue. (I was trying at wrong places in Mint Forum, I guess, here viewtopic.php?f=46&t=306140.)
First I'd like to apologize because my Mint version is in Brazilian Portuguese so I'd try to translate the messages I'm receiving from Mint into English through a translating on-line site but maybe technical terms could be different of normal conversation. Second, apologize for I'm nothing but a well intentioned and hard worker but beginner with computers.
I'm trying to install Mint in the follow notebook:
After getting blank screen and after learn using "nomodeset" in the GRUB, I downloaded the drivers from https://www.amd.com/pt/support and installed as the AMD's manual said. But a top-right window with message at the boot still brings something like "Your videoboard isn't being used so your system can be slow, go to 'Drivers Manager' and fix it.".
I did that and the drivers manager recommended to use X-Org drivers instead of the AMD's. I follow the recommendations but the warning message still appears.
I'd like to set both the cards (the one inside the processor and the external) to free the processor. Can somebody help me?

I did that and the drivers manager recommended to use X-Org drivers instead of the AMD's. I follow the recommendations but the warning message still appears.
I'd like to set both the cards (the one inside the processor and the external) to free the processor. Can somebody help me?

Hey
any hints how to get MINT 18.3 or 19.3 running with A10-6700 APU with hardware rendering and multi monitor support with kernel 4.4.0 or 5.0.0 ?
Trying it, it is still using software rendering.
Only kernel 3.19 works.

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Hi, how are you?
A doubt. Now that linux mint 17.3 has finished its support, what recommendation are there for users who have legacy video cards, where fglrx (catalyst) is the only option to take advantage of 3D potential?
He asked why if they stay in version 17.3, there are no security updates, and update would force the driver to use xf86-video-ati and lose all that potential, right?

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Hey guys, I'm using my Dell e5570 with i7 6th gen, 16GB ram and AMD Radeon R7 M370 2GB on Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon. I can't seem to find any drivers for it, I can't even check if the system sees it and the card is working with no problems in windows, so it's not a hardware issue. Are there drivers for this video card that I could install to make things better? My Mint 19.3 is running smooth without any issues what so ever even on the dock station and it's like perfect. I was just wondering how to check out if the system is using the card and if there is anything I can do to make things better and easier for my laptop. Thanks in advance
Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Hello me4okyx,
with the following terminal command you get informations of your graphic card(s) and can see, which driver is in use.
Your AMD card belongs to the so called "Sea Islands" and is able to run with amdgpu kernel module instead of radeon. If it runs with radeon, here you can find a way to enable amdgpu:

with the following terminal command you get informations of your graphic card(s) and can see, which driver is in use.
Code: Select all
lspci -nnk | egrep -i "VGA|3D|Display" -A2

Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
The result is shown as it should be and amdgpu is the driver in use after doing the thing in the video from your link
Thanks you very much @HAWR

You're welcome and I'm glad to hear it
Re: Mint 17 and 18 and now 19 AMD GPU drivers! Look here before doing anything!
Anybody know how to successfully add a new resolution? 1920 is just too tiny for my eyes and LM19 Xfce does not scale well like Windows at that resolution. At least, not on my 15" laptop screen. Resolution selection is extremely limited for some reason, with 1920x1080 and 1280x720 being my only two options for 16:9 display. Currently using the latter, but 1366x768 would be just about right - maybe even 1600x900. Unfortunately, every time I try to add either using this guide I get a blank screen and have to hard reboot.
Any tips or tricks would be much appreciate, otherwise I guess I can live with 720p.
