New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
Similar to the issue in 18.1,This issue of graphics card driver exists in 18.2 as well.I clean installed 18.2 KDE,then installed updates, then NVIDIA driver from driver manager.Rebooted.NVIDIA card is active. Now I switch to Intel and they try to log out/reboot/shutdown using the menu,Nothing happens.I log out using terminal and log back again,Intel is active. Now again when I switch to NVIDIA, I get this error every time I try to click on logout/restart/shutdown button in the menu: "kms-server logout greeter has closed unexpectedly".Even System settings won't open.

Re: New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
Well, upgrading a point release hoping that something is fixed without checking first isn't very reliable.
But it'd help if you actually said what hardware you're using. Copy/paste this into terminal and copy/paste the text output here:

Re: New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
You have a video card installed in your computer that also has Intel video installed on the motherboard?
If that is the case, there should be a bios setting for which video to use.
If that is the case, it could be an issue with bus priority within your computer.
Have you ever run a Linux distro that allowed you to switch video as you describe without the associated problems you describe?
... In any case, I don't have an answer to your problem ... just curious

Re: New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
Well One is integrated Graphics Intel 4000 and other is NVIDIA GT 650M.Intel 4000 is obviously on the chipset. And My BIOS has no option to enable/disable a GPU.It used to work well till linux mint 18.The moment I switched to 18.1 this problem started.Might be an issue with KDE verison. Some other people are also having the same problem. So I might go back to kde 18 or just use 18.2 without NVIDIA drivers.
Re: New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
I have an older nvidia GF119 [GeForce GT 610] in a Dell Optiplex 745 that was build in 2007 and I'm running Linux Mint 18.2 Mate.
Nvidia runs fine when selecting the nvidia-375 driver from the Driver Manager. The nouveau driver works fine as well, with the nvidia card. I haven't even tried using the integrated Intel video that was shipped with the Dell computer in 2007. I find absolutely no reason to try and use it.
The only problem I've had running nvidia drivers in LM 18.2 was just after installing 18.2 and noticed a newer kernel was available. I installed kernel 4.8.0-58 and started having some problems with the nvidia video. So I rolled back to the default kernel that shipped with 18.2 (4.8.0-53) ... and no problems or issues since. Maybe IF you've updated the kernel, might have something to do with it.

Re: New Linux Mint KDE,Same old problem
I have a GTX650 Nvidia card also installed in my computer. I have never got the 375.xx video driver to work even though it is the recommended one. I have the the alternate 340.102 drivers working. You might try making the change.
