Panasonic TV and Mint 18.1

Post by buteman »

I have friend who I gave a 18.1 disc to and he has installed it on his old laptop. It's the first time he has used Linux but he emailed me yesterday to say he had plugged in his Panasonic 42" TV.
Computer is Acer Aspire 5738Z
T.V is Panasonic TH-42PZ81B
He emailed that Linux hadn't seen it. I rang him and talked him through looking at the Display settings and Linux has detected a Panasonic 32" T.V. Nothing shows on the T.V screen at all - no wallpaper and no mouse pointer but if he moves his mouse to the right of his laptop screen it does disappear off it without appearing on the T.V.
I got him to run

Code: Select all

inxi -Gx
and he has emailed the output
Graphics:Card: Intel Mobile 4 Series Integrated Graphics Controller
bus-ID: 00:02.0
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.3 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
Resolution: 1366x768@59.97hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel GM45 Express
GLX Version: 2.1 Mesa 11.2.0 Direct Rendering: Yes
He got in a mess after that so ended up shutting it down.
I have never had this sort of problem over many years and many desktop and laptop machines.
I am thinking I will go visit him and try to fix his problem and just wonder if anyone knows how to fix it or just some ideas I could try.
As he is completely new to Linux I think it would be too much for him to do more himself.

I ran into something like that a while ago.Turned out I had to connect both monitors/TVs before booting the computer.
