HDMI AUDIO

Postby thatguy365 » Sun Sep 17, 2017 2:43 am

hello all, so i am very new at linux. I have two(2) older desktop pc's a dell deminsion 5100 and a dell inspiron 531. currently i am using the dell inspiron 531. I have this problem with both desktops because i use the same nvidia gpu for the HDMI output, the problem is that there is no sound through the HDMI, but sound is fine when i use headphones or the line out. I am using the Linux mint 18 64bit with the MATE desktop. I seem to not be the only person having this issue and have come up empty handed on a solution over the past three days. this is what is displayed with the " lshw " command :
*-multimedia
description: Audio device
product: MCP61 High Definition Audio
vendor: NVIDIA Corporation
physical id: 5
bus info: pci@0000:00:05.0
version: a2
width: 32 bits
clock: 66MHz
capabilities: pm msi ht bus_master cap_list
configuration: driver=snd_hda_intel latency=0 maxlatency=5 mingnt=2
resources: irq:22 memory:fe024000-fe027fff

I have checked the sound menu and there is no listing for an HDMI out i took some screen shots for a better idea of what i am talking about i'm lost on this, any help is appreciated

Please start a terminal and post the output of this command:

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz

Enclose the results in code markers, which you can select from the mini toolbar above the textbox where you type your reply.
If your problem is fixed, please mark your thread as [SOLVED] by editing the title of the first message in the thread.

Ok, here is the output of the command xrandr

Code: Select all

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1280 x 768, maximum 8192 x 8192
DVI-I-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
VGA-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
HDMI-1 connected primary 1280x768+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 16mm x 9mm
   1280x720      60.00 +  59.94
   1920x1080i    60.00    59.94
   1360x768      60.02
   1280x768      59.99*
   1024x768      60.00
   1440x480i     59.94
   800x600       60.32
   720x480       60.00    59.94
   640x480       60.00    59.94

it is clearly showing that HDMI-1 is connected as primary, so why am i not finding HDMI output in the sound options?

I have a different device, a tablet pc. I had the same problem with no hdmi audio. Then I upgraded to kernel 4.11, and it fixed my hdmi audio problems. I hope this helps.
