[SOLVED] Linux Mint 18.2 "Sonya" 64-bit Mate 1.18.0 Dual Monitor Issue

Post by NewNoob »

Good Morning/afternoon/evening All,
Searching the forums I see that there is an issue with dual monitors but none that I can see applicable to what I have going on.

Just trying the above version of Mint on a dual boot (Windows 7) system and can't get my dual monitors working in Mint.

The monitor attached to the Nvidia card is working fine but the monitor connected to the PC motherboard displays the LInux Mint logo on start up and shut down and during use displays the Linux 'dots' in the centre of the screen, but is not accessible or detected.

Hopefully this is something simple that as a new user I'm not aware of.

System is:
Linux Mint Sonya 18.2 64 bit
Kernel 4.10.0-35 generic x56-64
Mate 1.18.0
Nvidia GeForce GTX 560
Nvidia -375 (recommended), Version 375.66 0Ubuntu0 16.04.1
Compaq W2052a detected (detected as HP 20" VGA 0)
Asus VH192 (Not Detected)
Intel Core i5 2500K @3.30
4Gb Ram

Regards
Chris

I see that there is an issue with dual monitor
Yours is not an issue with dual monitors. You want to use dual video devices, and that's the problem.

How to run both Intel and Nvidia graphics card driver on dual monitor setup?

Dual graphics set up: NVIDIA and Intel, possible?

Are you running a VGA or DVI monitor off of the GTX 560?

Are you aware that the GTX 560 has outputs for both?

Years ago I was running an XP dual monitor setup with an Nvidia card and an on-board graphics. When I converted to Linux I had problems with the on-board graphics. As it turned out a $5.00 (US) DVI to VGA adapter allowed me to run both monitors off of the Nvidia card. (They operated independently, not mirrored.) I just ignore the on-board graphics.

Unless I missed something in your original post this might be a good solution for you. Good luck!

P.S. I am currently running Mint KDE 18.2 with dual monitors off of a GT 740 SC with the 375 driver, however, I am not sure if your Windows will work with this.

Jim You're a legend!

Slightly more expensive here in Oz ($AU13.00)

But happily running two monitors.

Linux....I'm back in the game!

Now for the printer....

Thanks again Jim.
