Intel microcode 3.20170707.1 firmware for Intel CPUs

Post by cosscara »

Hello everybody, this is my first post, so, please, be patient.
I just upgraded to linuxmint 18.2 and everything looks working well.
Checking for drivers, I received this answer:
Unknown.
this hardware doesn't work
Intel microcode ver. 3.20170707.1 Ubuntu 16.04.0 processor microcode firmware for Intel CPUs
I choose: do not use this driver.
My graphic card in an Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller; this is inxi -G:
Graphics: Card: Intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller
Display Server: X.Org 1.18.4 drivers: intel (unloaded: fbdev, vesa)
Resolution: 1366x768@59.99hz
GLX Renderer: Mesa DRI Intel Ivybridge Mobile
GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 17.0.7
Could someone explain what does it mean and what (if necessary) to do?
Tank you, best regards.

You can safely ignore it. Obviously your CPU does work. Because it runs on the microcode firmware in the BIOS.

So you only need to install this firmware package if you currently have problems with your CPU (which is unlikely).
