Linux Mint 18.2 and Radeon RX580 and AMD Driver 17.40

Dear all

I tried to install the amd gpu pro driver 17.40-492261 for my Radeon RX580 on a fresh installed Linux Mint 18.2 system

I followed therefore the instructions

After reboot I just get after the LinuxMint Logo a black screen. However I can switch to the Terminal (CTRL+ALT+F1) in order to login and uninstall the driver.
I tried to get this running on 4.8 .0-38 and 4.10.0-38 kernel, but the result was the same.

I like to know if someone has been lucky to get the AMD Driver working on RX580 card and if yes which version or tricks he had used. Any hints are welcome.

AMD does not support Linux anymore. So the drivers you installed will not have the CPU you mentioned as in the supported CPU list.
The solution is to uninstall the driver you tried to install or install Mint again.
