Post by rvpanoz » Mon Nov 13, 2017 6:46 pm

Hello!

I have tried to install the AMDGPU-PRO with no luck..
I follow these instructions viewtopic.php?t=242474,
install the amdgpu-pro then uninstall the xorg-video-radeon.

All fine. Reboot.

After rebooting the system I cannot see the background image - its black
Also only the desktop icons are visible - nothing else. Rendering even browser pages are slow.. no menus

I have a FAILED amdgpu when running inxi -F
What can I do to fix it?

Code: Select all

inxi -F

I searched all over the forum for an answer but i did not find anything to work.

With the default driver installed by mint installation I did not these problems but game perfomance was very poor.. so I decided to try amdgpu-pro.

Thanks in advance.

thank for your answer deepakdeshp,

I had a look at the thread you provided but i cannot get to the Update manager
because I do not see any menus or the taskbar anymore, only the desktop icons are visible.

Even CTRL+ALT+T not working.. terminal did not open.
My only option is to login to tty1 to see whats is wrong.

exactly the same error as daxh says
viewtopic.php?t=248059#p1356901

I had stuck at a black screen with a blinking cursor the first time I try to install the amdgpu-pro drivers,
i solve it by uninstalling the previous driver xorg-video-radeon as the guide said.

But even if i can login my system is useless.. as I said in my initial post.

You have to uninstall the driver somehow. There is a list of amd processors which have Linux driver.
