Hi All
I am having trouble installing the proprietary drivers for this card which are required to run X-Plane 11 flight simulator. When I try to run the installer it doesn't like the regular Gallium drivers. So, I have downloaded AMDs recommended for Ubuntu 16.04.3. Whenever I do a uname -a , I notice my Ubuntu version is only 16.04.1 How do I make it 16.04.3? Is that a kernel upgrade? I am running Mint 18.3 Sylvia.

Mint 18.3 is the latest version. And it isn't kernel upgrade

I also tried plain 18.2. This morning I saw the post above about amdgpu driver and followed. I replaced "Ubuntu" with "linuxmint".. It installs but after I reboot, it boots to a black screen.

Ubuntu 16.04.3 has two main differences over mint. It uses a 4.10 series kernel and a newer version of xorg.
Several people have had the same issue you described installing amdgpu-pro in Mint. You can try searching the forums, but the solution is essentially to upgrade mint's whole hardware enablement stack.
