Radeon R7 M445

Hi jimallyn,
This is my first time around but I have to ask this. I was trying to get my R7 M445 graphics card up and running but it seems impossible at this point. I've tried a number of distros so far but really like LM 18.3. However, there is no support, to my actual knowledge to this card. Is there anything you might be able to suggest?

Thanks a lot,
BlackMeaDoW

Hi,

I'm struggling with the same issue. Tried my very best as a newbie messed up 2 complete installation so far with frozen screen. Am I not finding the right source of information or there is really no solution to this driver issue?

First things first: open a terminal, maximize it to avoid cut off lines, then enter inxi -Fxz, and copy/paste the output of that command into your next post here. That will tell us about your system, what graphics device you have and what driver is in use, and a whole lot of other things that may help solve the problem you are having.

Hi
This is the screenshot of the Konsole. Note it says the AMD card id R7 M260/265 and it clearly isn't, according to the specs of the purchased laptop it is R7 M445.

As it turns out, I'm not sure if I was able to insert the screenshot.
Thanks for your time.

You don't have to take a screenshot, you can simply copy/paste the text from the terminal. But the screenshot works fine, too. I spent some time googling yesterday, and bookmarked some pages that had useful information, with the intent of digging deeper into it later. But I didn't have any time later, and I don't have the time for serious research now. However, here are the links that I bookmarked:

It seems like on one of the pages somebody else said they had an M445, but inxi told them they have M260/265. Not sure what that means. A number of places said if you have M445, you're out of luck, it won't work with Linux. But then some other pages said they changed something, and it works now. Several of the links I posted above had links to more information, you'll probably want to check those, too. At least one person said they did get it to work properly. Sorry I can't be of more help right now, but maybe you will find the answer in the links I posted.

Thanks a lot for that. I will do some more digging. To be honest, this forum was the last resort, I've spent several hours googling for some solution.
Anyway, the links are very much appreciated. Have a good weekend.

Has anyone solved this issue yet. I have not yet been able to get my Radeon R7 M445 working on Linux Mint

At least a couple of Ubuntu users had success with this link by following the Ubuntu 16.04 links within. Those still on Mint 18.x should be able to use the same. This was from following jimallyn's askubuntu link.

No that driver doesn't work. I have tried it before. I also note my card is not listed

Read the sticky. Pay attention to the part about mobile and APU devices.

The card appears to work now under Mint 19 albeit I am not 100% sure.

Output from inxi -Fxz

Card-2: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Topaz XT [Radeon R7 M260/M265 / M340/M360 / M440/M445]
