Running in Software Rendering Mode

Post by DD869 »

Hey,

I have installed Linux Mint Sylvia and am getting a message "Running in Software Rendering Mode".

Upon reading various threads I have found out that this is a graphic card/acceleration problem.I am currently virtualizing Mint on VirtualBox.

I have ticked Enable 3d acceleration in Virtual Box.

I had recently messed up my Nvidia graphics and thus have to render from my Intel processor.Following are the outputs of Inxi Commands:

System: Host: udit Kernel: 4.13.0-32-generic x86_64 (64 bit)
Desktop: Cinnamon 3.6.7 Distro: Linux Mint 18.3 Sylvia

GLX Renderer: llvmpipe (LLVM 5.0, 256 bits)
GLX Version: 3.0 Mesa 17.2.4 Direct Rendering: Yes

My Nivdia card might not be working. But I am sure that my Intel Processor is handling all the graphics.

My Question :

1. Why am I getting this message as my intel card has Intel HD Graphics 4000?
2. Can something be done about this ?

Thanks

Something worth trying, boot with live cd and check for the problem

You need to install the Guest Additions. Look under "Devices" (I think) on the VB window toolbar. Click load the "Guest Additions CD" or whatever it's called (it's something like that). Then double click the "CD" in the guest OS to install the additions. Reboot the guest OS and you should be in business.

About which version of VirtualBox are we talking here?

Besides that: This thread is on the wrong board. Inside of a virtual machine the graphics system on the hardware does not matter. VB uses its quite own virtualized hardware.
