Video doesn't work as well on 18 as it did on 17, Latitude e6520

Post by someSomething »

Every now and then, the main screen flickers. My portable on-lap monitor doesn't seem to, but I don't look at it as much.

Now, when I play Empire Total War, the loading screen is black, and the world view is mostly black with some labels, shading, etc showing. I haven't even tried to get to battles, but everything else seems to work fine.

A java program I use seems a lot slower now whenever it has to change display.

This did not happen with 17. I have seen on other pages that this may be a known bug fixed in 4.6 then reintroduced in 4.8 and removed again in 4.15(?), the two "good" kernels not being available in 18.

Anyone know how to fix this until 4.15(?) is available on Mint?

Uninstalling intel's drivers and changing to modesetting helped, but Empire TW still has black loading screens and black world maps.
