Cannot get sound on my TV with Mint

Post by bask185 » Mon Feb 26, 2018 4:56 am

I bought a Minix Z83-4 HTPC for my 4k tv. I had a problem with windows 10 (besides the update terror). Trying to play DVDs wasn't fast enough, it was just a little bit laggy. Anyways long story short I installed latest Linux mint with the xfce desktop environment last week and now my TV has no audio at all. I googled my butt off in an attempt to find the answer, I tried everything but no solutions.

I ran sudo update and sudo upgrade, rebooted, did some stuff from tutorials and forums but nothing works.

The specific problem is that my tv is not listed as an output device in Mint's audio settings menu. I can only find a virtual dummy output. As I final solution I tried to install ubuntu instead but I am having problems with booting from my usb stick. Anyways I just want Mint to work.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Install pavucontrol and see if you can switch on the device from there.

I fixed the problem by updating the kernel via the software updater.

I already tried everything else. I spent over a week trying to solve the problem, clicked 30 links, did 30 things. I came across many simple as well as complicated "solutions" and none of them worked.

It does not work with things but with drivers, which are in the kernel. By updating the kernel you have obtained newer drivers for the video.
