No drivers available for AMD

Post by deepakdeshp » Mon Feb 26, 2018 8:09 am

Hello,
My configuration is as follows. When I go to driver manager I cant find any fglrx driver for my AMD . Mint 17.2 has support for AMD with fglrx in driver manager.
With normal usage like youtube, browsing, using libre office is it wort going to Mint 17.3? But 17.3 EOL is approaching now and 18.3 EOL is 2 years more than 17.3.
I think the drivers for my AMD isnt available as AMD hasnt released any driver for 18.3. Ideally I would have liked to install drivers for v 18.3.
Thanks all for any answers

Yeah if you have an old ATI/AMD graphics card you have to use the generic driver, xserver-xorg-video-ati.

In Driver manager there is no option to choose any driver.

Code: Select all

lspci -nn | grep -E 'VGA|Display'
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Mullins [Radeon R4/R5 Graphics] [1002:9851] (rev 45)
01:00.0 Display controller [0380]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Sun XT [Radeon HD 8670A/8670M/8690M / R5 M330] [1002:6660] (rev ff)
uma@mint-18-uma /sys $ lspci -nn | grep -E 'VGA|Display'
