Colour difference (slight yellow tint) in images and games

Post by alborzka »

I've been noticing a yellow tint on my gaming and also when viewing images: For example, if I go to this URL:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/f ... =973644940
and I see the first photo (among the 3 in the row), it appears red as thus:
Image

But when I click on it and the larger image appears, a yellow tint (noticeable whenever I game as well) is applied:
Image

EDIT: This is an example of what happens and this problem occurs during gaming as well; when playing a game, the colours on my screen look like the first image but when I take a screenshot and look at that on another computer it looks like the second image, so I think the second image is what my colour settings *really* are but something is overriding it so that all I see on my screen is colour settings that look like the first image. I wanna know how I can get my screen to show this *real* profile so I can change it and make all my screenshots etc *actually* look like the first image.

Any ideas why this is happening? I imagine it has something to do with a colour profile, but I can't seem to change anything about it.

Could be your color management mode in the browser.
For example in PaleMoon and probably FireFox, type about:config in the address bar and then search for 'color_management'. Try toggling the color_management-enablev4 and try that. If it doesn't help you can toggle it back.

Unfortunately it's not just the browser, this also happens in-game as well (playing Cities: Skylines on Steam, for example).

this could be because of your Monitor settings have a vibrant touch to them. one way is to RESET the monitor colors to default with the buttons provided to see if your colors change

What buttons would those be?

I imagine it has something to do with a colour profile, but I can't seem to change anything about it.

I usually don’t need to manage the monitor’s color profile but I experienced this problem after installing Mint 18.3 Cinnamon, using kernel 4.13.0-32-generic and the nvidia-384.111 driver. I was taking a lot of screenshots of the panel for other topics and the colors were frequently incorrect, as seen in the panel on the left in the picture below. The panel on the right shows the correct colors.

When I went to System Settings > Color, there was no color profile assigned to my LG 24M45 monitor, as usually is the case. When a profile is assigned, there will then be an arrowhead to the left of the monitor name. When I clicked the Add profile button and expanded the drop-down list, this was the listing:

color profiles.png

I had the installation CD that came with the monitor, so I copied the .icm file for that monitor, named 24M45.icm, and added it to /home/your-user-name/.local/icc. These were designed for Windows but can be used by Linux. I then re-opened the Color app, clicked the Add profile button and clicked Other profile… at the bottom of the expanded list. In the Select ICC Profile File window, right click in the empty space and mark the checkbox next to Show Hidden Files.
Then I went to the icc folder, selected the 24M45.icm file and clicked the Import button. The Available Profiles for Displays window opened. Now when I expanded the drop-down list, there was also listed Default: 24M45. Also there was an arrowhead next to the monitor name in the Color window, and when clicked, the correct color profile was selected, as seen in the picture below. If the correct profile is not automatically selected, then click the Add profile button, select the correct profile and click Add.

After selecting the color profile, the screen temporarily increased in brightness but was OK after logging out and back in.

I didn’t experience any more screenshot color problems after doing that but I experienced the exact same problem on another PC with Mint 18.3 Cinnamon installed and using kernel 4.4.0-108-generic and nvidia-340.104 driver. While testing Mint 18.3 MATE and Xfce, I didn’t experience that kind of problem.

If you don’t have the monitor’s installation CD, then go to the manufacturer’s website or try using the Best RGB profile.
