NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT - Any settings for it to run as cool as possible?

Post by Ohm Sweet Ohm »

I have very recently installed Linux Mint Mate 18.3 32bit onto a laptop.

I have installed the recommended driver 340.104

I'm wondering if there are any settings I can adjust that will let the graphics card run as cool as possible?

The laptop will only be used by my sister for browsing the internet but I would like the laptop running as cool as possible.

what does nvidia-smi in terminal display? or if that doesn't return anything what is the temperature in nvidia-settings >>> thermal settings

there are a few settings to control the gpu fan but nvidia recommends letting it on AUTO. the one thing you can do is make sure that you use a can of dust air to the laptop vents

60 on idle for a laptop is average they run hot. laptops need good airflow. if you want to enable fan control for nvidia https://mintguide.org/system/445-overcl ... -mint.html
