How to boot with Nvidia and AMD video cards?

Post by pinkterm »

I've been testing out Linux Mint 18.3 and I like it, but I have a huge problem. I have a GTX 1080 and an AMD R9 290. I use the 1080 as the main card and I use the 290 to mine cryptocurrency. This worked fine on Windows by installing both Nvidia and AMD drivers. But when I went to the Driver Manager on Mint and installed the nvidia-390 (I also tried nvidia-384, nvidia-387, and the Nouveau drivers) it booted to a black screen that was blinking at the top left. I got it to boot with nomodeset in Grub.

All the tutorials I've found were from before 2012, anyone know how to do this?

I don't know if it's important, but I booted with radeon.modeset=0 in Grub.
