Nvidia installation issues

Really hoping for some help. My system is almost unusable after trying to update Nvidia drivers.

I am trying to follow the instructions here but keep consistently getting this error message:

Failed to fetch https://linuxmintpkg.efemef.ovh/pool/up ... _amd64.deb SSL: certificate subject name (efemef.ovh) does not match target host name 'linuxmintpkg.efemef.ovh'

Any ideas how to solve this problem?

I tried that link and got a ton of Chrome security warnings. So I'd avoid that. Don't use blogs for getting drivers, they're not secure (some are good but go to the original host site).

Did you try the Mint Driver Manager? That's the most reliable way. As dumb as this sounds to a Windows user, in Linux going to the mfr's site for drivers is usually a BAD idea. The drivers there are often not the right versions and buggy.

Also post some more system details, always. Copy/paste this to the terminal and coptypaste the text output here:

why are you not installing from Driver Manager?

thanks, that error message is from the driver manager. however, i managed to sort that particular problem by resetting the software sources list main repository.

however, now i keep getting the "cinnamon just crashed you are currently running in fallback mode".

keep getting this message even after having run the new updates.

Any ideas? from some googling it seems that cinnamon does not like the new nvidia drivers...

For the sake of clarity and future posterity efemef.ovh is one of the Linux mint French mirrors, so clearly this needs to be sorted at their end. Even using a recommended update method like driver manager will result in the initial issue I posted about until they sort their site. Changing to the US (main) repository in software sources rectified the update issue.

The above issue re cinnamon crashing remains however.
