Screens blank after suspend or hibernate

Post by w2xo »

After suspending or hibernating the system, both primary and secondary monitors show blank grey screens except any area that is changing, such as the time/date and the network connection (which happens after a long enough interval). This happened, apparently, after the latest kernel update or xorg update. The screens can be made to fill in by tapping the space bar and clicking the left mouse button, determined experimentally. If just the left mouse button is pushed and the mouse is moved, the screen will fill in in a rectangle above and to the left of the mouse cursor.

I am running Linux Mint 17.3 with Mate desktop
Here is the output of inxi -Fxz

Shutting down the system and powering it back up will make the screens fill normally with background wallpaper.
Thanks for any suggestions.
