freezing video playback

Post by gizmo-au » Sun May 13, 2018 9:53 pm

I have a new install of mint 18 XFCE.
It is on an old Acer laptop - a Aspire 3623WXCI.
It has 2 Gb of ram fitted. Celeron M processor.
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 900.
It all works fine except that youtube videos tend to freeze after a few seconds. The audio continues. Some videos play longer before freezing, and some don't freeze.
It plays DVDs with no problem.

I wonder if trying some other boot options would help, eg: nomodeset? how can I try different boot settings on an existing installation? (already installed to Hard Drive.)
Any other suggestions?

I'd first check Driver Manager and see if there are graphics drivers recommended there.

Otherwise, paste back the results of inxi -Fxz and maybe we can find something else.

Thanks for your reply.
the only thing driver manager offered was an intel microcode update which I accepted, but it made no difference.

lower the quality of the videos to 360. it also may be your internet speed too slow or you have some addons interfeering
