[Solved] LM 18.3 message: Running software in rendering mode

Post by FanOfLinux »

Hi:

I am setting up a Gigabyte MZ31 motherboard.

General info:
https://b2b.gigabyte.com/Server-Motherb ... -rev-10#ov

Specifications:
https://b2b.gigabyte.com/Server-Motherb ... -undefined
Onboard Video is:
Integrated in Aspeed® AST2500
2D Video Graphic Adapter with PCIe bus interface
1920x1200@60Hz 32bpp

I get a LM 18.3 message "Running software in rendering mode" with additional info:
"Cinnamon is currently running without hardware acceleration .....
...
There could be a problem with your drivers or some other issues.
For best experience, it is recommended that you only use this mode for trouble shooting purposes".

I have already did all updates via the update manager as well as Driver Manager.
There was no VGA driver updates in Driver Manager.

Why do I still get the "Running software in rendering mode" message?
What is the fix?
Thank you.

You need to post more info, copy/paste this to the terminal and copy//paste the text output here ...

Code: Select all

inxi -Fxz
... though from a quick search I suspect it may need a newer kernel. Do not just go and blindly install the newest kernel, that may break something. Linux kernel juggling is an art, for lack of a better word, and don't ever upgrade a kernel before learning how to reboot from the old one via CLI if stuff breaks.

Solved.
The warning message is due to onboard graphics chip not having 3D capability.
